6A late muzzy hunt and snow

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering what is the most snow that anyone has seen on this hunt. Is there a possibility of there being enough snow to prevent you from getting around? A friend and I got lucky and drew tag this year and are just trying to plan where to camp and be in a good enough spot to walk from camp if need be.

Thanks

Bill

There is so much country in that unit if you do have a lot of snow it will push those elk to the lower parts of that unit hunting should be much easier if this does happen. One year I was up there after a big snow storm I have never seen so many elk it was incredible opening morning we saw over 300 elk. My superintendent drew this tag I will be up there as well good luck to you.

Not sure when this hunt is but I have hunted 6A twice in late November and we had rough weather for a few days both time which made the roads pretty soupy. One year we had two days straight of thunderstorms which brought rain and snow and fog lowering visibility to 50 yards.

In 2011 they got 11 inches of snow the week before the season. As mentioned above, the elk all moved lower. As the snow melted, the roads got pretty messy but as long as you have a quad or a 4x4 truck, you will be fine. I have been on that hunt several times now and the typical weather is about 50-60 during the day and in the low 30's at night. But, the weather can be unpredictable in the mountains in November so you never know.

My first year hunting there some 13-15 years ago the high was 30 and the low was 15.

Every other time was azehtr says high in the 50-60 with lows in the high 20-30's.

Think about at least two pairs of boots and lots of layers of clothes.

Most of all it will be fun!
