Scope Rings and Bases

Recommended Posts

There's a lot of discussion about what scope people prefer but I haven’t seen any discussion on preferred bases and rings – If I’ve missed it and am rehashing an old topic I apologize. So, what does everyone prefer/recommend? Every scope I’ve ever mounted has been mounted with two piece bases. No particular reason other than I’ve always thought they are less likely to interfere with the spent case ejection – no evidence of this and no evidence a solid base might interfere – any experience either way? What do people prefer?

The Conetrols get my eye for looks, but I have none on my rifles. Otherwise, I like the looks of the Leupold dual dovetail bases (no rear windage screws to give problems like loosening or a weaker connection under heavyrecoil) coupled with the Burris Signature rings with the synthetic inserts. I like the better finger access into the receiver with the two-piece bases over the single-piece base.

I have always used the luepold rings and bases, they seem fine on the remmington action as far as 2 piece or single the one piece would be stonger. I have never had a problem with the spent cases. the one piece is harder to load though.

i have had problems with leupold rings and bases. I have 4 or 5 sets that worked fine, but on one gun i went through 2 sets of rings and bases.(all 2 pc) I couldnt get enough elevation out of them. I switched to talley, the base and ring are connected milled from 1 pc of aluminum, my scope was about 8 clicks from dead center. The next set i buy will be the talley

Once again the Rabbit is wise.

I have been using the dual dovetails with Burris signatures for awhile. Its really nice because they hold well, don't torque the scope and I can actually use the +/- inserts to get the scope centered without using the internal adjustments. Just takes a little time to get them rotated to the right spot....

Only other thing I like is to have the screws re-tapped to 8-40.

Save some dollars and just duct tape the scope onto your barrel.
