More D Report post Posted May 15, 2007 kphunter. You would be comparing two different tools to that can do the same job but do it differently. The new smaller Hondas and Yamahas are different than the jobsite style generators The 8500watt is loud! My uncle took off the toddler shoe box sized original muffler and replaced it with 2 small automotive style mufflers, it did get quieter but it is still is loud. I bet the 3500-4500 Troybuilt generators would be quieter though. My uncles 8500 runs at full speed or full rpms regardless if it has a load or not. That =loud and gas sucker too. The newer small Hondas and Yamahas are not generators but inverters. They have a throttle control that increases rpms as you need them. They sip gas. My Honda 2000 will run for 15 hours with no load and 4-5 with ½ load on 0.9 gallon of gas! Cool thread!
ultramag Report post Posted May 15, 2007 the hondas are real good I have an old 650 honda that is at least 25 years old and runs like a champ. It just keeps the batteries charged and will run the heater thats all I need. But due to the age I will probly replace it this year with the honda 2000 or the yamaha 2400. COUESAZ Report post Posted May 15, 2007 Ultra mag that is the one i have. It is a great little unit. It is the one i am saying that a conversation is louder than the generator. Some times i have to walk around the trailer to see if it is running or not. This is a great buy for someone looking for a 2000 or doubling up for a 4000 total. http://phoenix.craigslist.org/tls/330993571.html
kphunter Report post Posted May 15, 2007 That's a good price on those Honda's, Arizona Guide. If I wasn't putting money into our home right now, I'd seriously consider buying them. KP
