Memorial Weekend, Which Rim Lake?

Recommended Posts

If you can make the trip to Reservation Lake you will cut way down on the people and catch more fish. The reservation lakes in general have crowds that are a bit smaller or Big lake at least you can find a spot to avoid someone on top of you. Hiking the river is also a lot of fun and you can catch fish while you enjoy the scenery.

Good luck!

Shhhhhhhhhh! Quite! Let them go to the rim lakes. ;)

The park pond at 35th Ave and baseline will be more tame than a rim lake this weekend

I fished woods canyon today and it was a wonderful day of fishing with lots of trout and hardly any people. As for this weekend, unless my gf's kids beg me to go, I will not be near any lake in AZ cause there will be crowds and drunks.

Even though it's a long drive, Knoll will still be crowded. It will be better than most of the other lakes, but there will be no peace and quiet anywhere on the rim until Tuesday.

We always catch more fish at WC than Knoll. But there are fewer people at Knoll and there are some places where you can camp just before the campground where you can walk to the lake, although it is a little steep, but manageable. It will be windy today and tomorrow as this cold front moves in so expect to see temps pretty close to freezing at night. Knoll and WC are both at about 7500'.

Oh yaaaaa....

What I meant is I really recommend is Rainbow Lake! There will be lots of nice childrens, fidos, and joggers, to hold your rod and help you catch fish!

It is simple there are toooooooo many people in AZ. All you people that think that the growth of Phonieix is good are the problem. Where do you think that allll of those people came from? Most came from idiotville, commiefornia, new jerk, oregone, iowa (idiots out walking around), bum f--- egypt, suth of de brder, and other terrorists places. have a nice weekend. And remember this weekend is to celebrate the people who have given their lives so that these idiots could be free to screw up the USA.

Ummm..... OK.

It will be crowded up there, no doubt, Nick. Keep a patient & positive attitude, and HAVE FUN! Nothing like getting the family out for a little camping to kick the summer off, IMO. Explore a little and you can find great places to camp with solitude away from the lakes for peace and quiet, then go to the water for a little fishing and kid's crawdad time here and there. Good times can be had! ;)

anyone remember when mexican hay lake was fishable with nice big pink meat rainbows?

when I was a kid my dad would take us on a week long camping trip over one of the holidays and we would stay on the little colorado so we could be by water and we would take the the old row boat to mexican hay and take turns slaying the rainbows. we would be the only ones fishing it.

I'd pick Knoll. It's farther in and doesn't fill up with people as quick. But it will fill up this weekend. Try and get there early Friday to find a place to camp. If you fish by the dam it will be pretty crowded. If you drop off the side in the middle of the lake you should have a pretty quiet time. Enjoy the weekend.

I grew up in payson many years ago. Not being negative we never left the house on the 3 day weekends. It's like an invasion of people. With that said I would agree with the comment about Chevlon go in the back way camp away from people and hike down and enjoy the lake. If you decide on any of the other lakes just get there at the crack of dawn and stake out your territory and be ready to get squeezed.

Anyone wanna start a pool on which area some idiot torches off the first wildfire? Wife already ran into some idiot turkey hunters on tuesday who seem to think its ok to leave your fire burning after you have pulled out of camp. No amount of rain is gonna stop this from happening. And its gonna be a bad one soon

I missed the above post about Mexican Hay lake I remember hitting those fish on a fly rod and them litterly going nuts. It was hard to land them as they would run into the reeds.

I remember ice fishing Mexican hay and limiting out on 3-5 lb fish! The cool thing was watching them take the bait cause of the gin clear shallow water. My parents have a 7 lb rainbow from colter reservoir! That lake is just a stock tank now and no fish ........ Sad
