Had 12 cams out for two weeks

Recommended Posts

My brother(Jrod) and I had 12 of our cameras out for the last two weeks. Retrieved them today and thought I would share. Not qiite as much fun when the elk are in the early stages of growth but interesting to see how fast they grow them horns. The bear is in our "special" saddle that always has bear its just about impossible to hunt.

12 cams! wowza i imagine you keep them reasonably close together or at least minimalize the hike distance. that is a cool bear photo as well. is that up north?

Wow twelve cams! Keeping my three out is sometimes a pain. You guys must use digital cams with rechargable batterys, or have one heck of a bank account. What kind of cams are they?

Very cool photos. That bear is very beautiful in that color phase. I've always wanted to put one of my cams on a fence like you did, and set it to take more than one photo for some airborn action shots.

BASS-The cams are digital and we do use rechargeable batteries. It gets pretty expensive otherwise! We actually build our own digital trailcams for more than half the price of the "good" retail ones. We use 4 MP sony cams that work great and the finished product is a lot smaller than the ones you find in the store. If your interested in building one of your own there are a few websites that can help....here is one.... www.hagshouse.com.... its lots of fun but as I am sure others will agree....it is very addicting!

KDH- Believe me it is tough keeping them out that long. We are constintently having to tell each other to wait..........

RUSSD- We put them all over..... we like the hiking part of it and both need the excersise ;) ...its up north!

Hey akuritone,

I just wangted to let you know that it is ILLEGAL to have a tree stand out there when there are no deer seasons going on. You may want to check those rules and regualtions on the AZGF web site.

TG--- the cams are easy to build. If you have a soldering gun and a few hours you should have one built in that amount of time. There are only about 8 cameras that work as homebrews and you MUST use one of them. Nice thing about that is they are not super expensive ones. All you need is the camera, a box, and a motion board and really thats about it. The cameras have to be modified slightly in order to hook to the board, the box has to have holes cut specifically for the camera you are using and thats really about it. Take a look at the websight above that I mentioned and play around on there for a while....you will notice that some people will modify your cameras and cut holes in boxes all for a price but it saves time if you dont have it. Between akuritone and myself we have built plenty and they usually range between 150 and 300 dollars. A lot of that depends on ho much of the "work" you do yourself and how much you can get the camera for. These cams are generally MUCH better than anything bought in the store (although some will argue with that) but as you can tell not Super cheap so its something you dont want to put on any path or waterhole.

GH- You can paypal me that dollar :P  ;)

Aside from the fish police rules, the UV rays will degrade any nylon straps or parts on your stand and possibly make it unsafe. Leaving it up during the year to weather is a bad idea.

nice pics, great looking bear!!!

I pretty sure it is not illegal to have a treestand up when it is not deer season, at least not against g$f law maybe against forest service law to leave one up.
