I just picked one up, it's a break open single shot H&R threaded barrel new for $200.00. I have a can that fits it as well. Looking for a scope for it now, but I bought it for a dog gun at 0-200 yards. I'm curious as well how quiet it is and the stopping power it had.

Keep us posted

My (then) 10-year old daughter got to shoot an AR platform in .300 Blackout with a can last summer at the range up here. I didn't get the privilege, but she turned around immediately yelling "I WANT ONE!!" I've heard mixed reviews and seen Barnes' advertisements for hogs, deer, and bear at closer range. I'm definitely interested in one, but not sure what I'd do with it in reality.

I feel the same way. If the military adopts a round you can find it anywhere. But a wildcat is sometimes hard to get

It would be a good choice for heli hog hunting!

Suppressed subs in a break-open gun are very quiet. Useful critter range depends on bullet expantion upon penetration. Use a bullet designed to expand at your distance and velocity, and you are good to go, subs or supers.

Shot a javelina last year with mine using supers, about 100m out, subs are fun to shoot but kind of useless for hunting, bullet drops to fast, can't remember what it was from 50m - 75m but it was crazy

I built a 300 Whisper (forerunner to the 300 Black Out) nearly 4 years ago on an AR platform. First and foremost: it is designed to be a sub-sonic round. It has enough versatility to be a decent big game rifle at distances under 300 yards when loaded supersonic (think 30-30 Winchester type ballistics). When used in an AR configuration, it helps to have an adjustable gas block so that the rifle can cycle both sub-sonic and super sonic rounds.

One problem the 300 Whisper or Black Out have is unreliable expansion when using rifle bullets on game at subsonic velocities. There simply isn't enough velocity to start expansion, so the bullets either 'pencil' through, or go 'banana shape' and tumble. While the latter result is often deadly on game, I have found that the best bullet for the 30 cal subsonics is a specialty bullet made by Outlaw Bullets. Their 220 grain bullet leaves my 10" barrel at 1,020 fps. It expands well and still provides great penetration:

For supersonic rounds, I use the Nosler 125 grain Ballistic Tip. It leaves the barrel at close to 1,850 fps.

As you can see, the 300 Whisper/Black Out is not an ideal big game rifle, but its versatility as both a sub-sonic/supersonic rifle cannot be overlooked.

I think a lot of the appeal of this round is the "Coolness Factor" of shooting with a suppressor. It will always draw a crowd at the range.

That being said I do have a 300 blkout on an AR platform, but am only planning on shooting supersonic rounds at this time. As AZsugerbear said, 1850fps with a 125 grain 30 caliber bullet is right at 30-30 range and we all know that that round killed more deer in the 19 hundreds then any other. Am I going to put my 25-06 in the closet and use the 300 blk as my deer rifle, not a chance. I really built this rifle because everybody has a AR in 223,myself included, and this was something different. I put a 2 x 7 shotgun scope on it and am good to go.

I built my AR basically cause I wanted what I carried in the army but better. I also got SHTF type stuff.

I also wanted a more lethal round than the 556, just not sure the 300 is it

Here is my ABC 300BLK Topper. It's an awesome rifle. I put the Leupold mark4 1.5-5 on it. It is FFP and has the 300blk reticle. I have a Silencerco 30cal Harvester suppressor on it until my omega is approved. It's lightweight and shoots great. I have 3 300blk ARs but this thing is the quietest and lightest.

It's quiet but not soda opening quiet. The only firearms I have that are that quiet are 22 subsonic, 44spl and 45acp rifles with suppressors on them. The slower the quieter.
