water line leak HELP NEEDED

Recommended Posts

I have a tree that's roots have cracked my main water line in my front yard. I've cut down the tree. Now I'm trying to get to the water line to find the leak. Just wondering if any CW members do this type of work. If so please call me ASAP!

My dad had an issue like this with his rental house. The guy renting the house had water bills around $300 and $400 in consecutive months before letting my dad know. They figured out that there was a broken pipe somewhere between the road and the house under the ground, but they weren't sure where without digging the whole thing up. They got two estimates to repair. One was around $3500 and the other around $4000.

Instead we contacted a landscaper who came over with his workers. Instead of digging everything up they trenched a new line and tied into the old one at the street and house. Cost about $500 in parts and labor.

If you can find the wet spot start digging, less than $20 fix.

When I was in high school we would go into Mexico and party. Your post is almost the exact same advice we would give the new guy!

I agree with find the wet/soft spot and start digging. Also, you should have a fairly straight path from your shutoff at the street to where it enters the house, usually at the front hose bib. But not always, depending on your house. Mine actually goes around and comes in at the rear of the house. Not normal though.

Where are you located?
