codyhuntsaz Report post Posted May 9, 2007 I have been hearing a lot lately about hunting close to town. Perhaps in the Superstition Mtns. Anyone have any close locations they hunt or maybe have hunted in the past? I would like to set up some trail cams and spend a few hours a week out in the hills. Whitetail or Mule deer no preferance. BASS Report post Posted May 9, 2007 Just a heads up, but not too many people will post their secret near by hunting spots. You may get a few private messages though with some good leads.
DesertBull Report post Posted May 10, 2007 You just need to get out there and look around. Take a look at some maps and find some water tanks, streams etc away from the roads. In the desert, where there is water, there is game. I would not put a camera on a water tank though, unless you like giving them away to thieves. Been there, DONE THAT! BASS Report post Posted May 10, 2007 Yeah I never (well I did once, and got very lucky that the guys in the photos didn't snag it) put my cameras near roads, water, or salt. Put them away from where you want along the game trails. Just another tip.
ultramag Report post Posted May 10, 2007 the east side of town is a lot better than the west side. north on hwy 87 will take you to a lot of good spots, or east on us 60 within an hour of good stuff. honey holes are the eye of the beholder so spend some time and you will score. mattys281 Report post Posted May 10, 2007 If you're interested in the Superstition Wilderness, you'd better make sure you boots are broken in. At over 160,000 acres, there's a couple hundred miles of trail in there. Some of the western end trails get hammered hard by backpackers & day hikers from the Valley of the Scum, but there are trails in the middle & eastern portion that only see a couple of people per year, if that. Last December I hiked about an 18 miler (round trip) & once I got past the first 2 miles I didn't see another boot print. There's deer in their, as well as a few bears & the last time I was out I ran into a guy running hounds for lions.
