TIME FOR CHANGE??

Recommended Posts

Guest wdenike

When a company falls on difficult times, one of the things that seems to happen is they reduce their staff and workers. The remaining workers must find ways to continue to do a good job or risk that their job would be eliminated as well.

Wall street and the media normally congratulate the CEO for making this type of "tough decision", and the board of directors gives upper corporate management big bonuses..

Our government should not be immune from similar risks.

Therefore:

Reduce the House of Representatives from the current435 members to 218 members.
Reduce Senate members from100 to 50 (one per State). Then, reduce their remaining staff by 25%.

Accomplish this over the next 8 years (two steps/two elections) and of course this would require some redistricting.

Some Yearly Monetary Gains Include:

$44,108,400 for elimination of base pay for congress. (267 members X $165,200 pay/member/ yr.)

$437,100,000 for elimination of their staff. (Estimate $1.3 Million in staff per each member of the House, and $3 Million in staff per each member of the Senate every year)

$108,350,000 for the reduction in remaining staff by 25%.

$7,500,000,000reduction in pork barrel earmarks each year. (Those members whose jobs are gone. Current estimates for total government pork earmarks are at$15 Billion/yr).

The remaining representatives would need to work smarter and improve efficiencies.. It might even be in their best interests to work together for the good of our country!

We may also expect that smaller committees might lead to a more efficient resolution of issues as well. It might even be easier to keep track of what your representative is doing.

Congress has more tools available to do their jobs than it had back in 1911 when the current number of representatives was established. (Telephone, computers, cell phones to name a few)

Note:
Congress does not hesitate to head home for extended weekends, holidays and recesses, when what the nation needs is a real fix for economic problems. Also, we had 3 senators who were not doing their jobs for the 18+ months (on the campaign trail) and still they all accepted full pay. Minnesotasurvived very well with only one senator for the first half of this year. These facts alone support a reduction in senators and congress.

Summary of opportunity:

$44,108,400 reduction of congress members.

$282,100,000 for elimination of the reduced house member staff.

$150,000,000 for elimination of reduced senate member staff.

$70,850,000 for 25% reduction of staff for remaining house members.

$37,500,000 for 25% reduction of staff for remaining senate members.

$7,500,000,000 reduction in pork added to bills by the reduction of congress members.

$8,084,558,400 per year, estimated total savings. (That's 8-BILLION just to start!)

Corporate America does thesetypes of cuts all the time.
There's even a name for it.

"Downsizing."
------------------------------
Also, if Congresspersons were required to serve 20, 25 or 30 years (like everyone else) in order to collect retirement benefits, taxpayers could save a bundle.

Now they get full retirement after serving only ONE term.

----------------------------------------

IF you are happy with howWashington spends our taxes, delete this message.
Otherwise, it's time to "downsize" Congress

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please consider forwarding, if you agree.

I have cleaned this e-mail of all other names, By copying and pasting it, I'm sending it to you in hopes that you will keep it going and keep it clean. This is something I believe in and I hope you all read it all the way through.

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months and 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971...before computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc..

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.

I'm asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

Congressional Reform Act of 2012

1. Term Limits. 12 years only, one of the possible options below..

A. Two Six-year Senate terms
B. Six Two-year House terms
C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

3. Congress (past , present and future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/13.

The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home andback to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S. ) to receive the message. Maybe it is time..

LET'S FIX CONGRESS!!!!! If you agree, pass it on. If not, just delete. You are one of my 20+. Please keep it going.

Probably a waste of breath. But can't win if ya don't try!!!

Take care, Willie

Read this the other day. Totally makes sense to me. Will it ever happen? Me thinks not but worth a try.

That is a very good idea. Seems that all jobs in the private sector (non government)--utilities, mining, industry-manufacturing, etc. are all working on downsizing whether through attrition, lay offs, etc. Yet the expectation is do more with less. That has become the form of operation now. Hope this moves ahead, again -hope.

Disagree with cutting congressmen down. For example, in AZ all they'd have to do is please Phoenix and Tucson. The rest of the state would be represented by what the big cities want. Not saying the rural areas are represented perfect now but at least we have somewhat of a say in who we vote into office.

SOunds good, but who's going to lead the charge. The Fed's have their bootheels on the neck of America, and it's only getting worse.

Wait until Hildabeast Clinton gets elected. It's a very good probability she will. All of the establishment players are in this together, and they hold the power. The Dem's have the GOP backed into a corner, and the GOP Is in shambles with the RINO's at the helm.

Get rid of all of them and start over..... sure, and monkey's will fly out of my butt.

Abolish the IRS, and charge everyone a flat tax with no exemptions, all business's included. Foreign and domestic. Take away the political power of the most powerful agency in America.

The American people spoke last November and put the Republicans back in charge, Look where it got us. They all backstabbed us, and didn't keep their promises as usual. Mitch McConell , and his flunkies, are a disgrace.

All we do is install a new set of liars and thieves every time we vote. Washington D.C is the epicenter of power and corruption.

IMO - It will take something extremely more drastic to make a positive change.

I feel also it will fall on deaf ears. But just passing it along. I will never understand how the population tolerates thier BS. Out of that whole page of suggestions. You would think the fact that the POS get a retirement after serving as little as one term, would lite the fuse. Wouldn't it be nice to romp around working that short of time. Accumulating a nice retirement, and health insurance. With the amount of people that work thirty to forty years. With nothing but what they put aside on their own. I would think the outrage would be out of control.

How do we change the health insurance and retirement benefit that they get? They are the ones who control it!! Only way to "maybe fix it" is to vote in honest people but why be honest if you know once elected your gonna get a good life ater 4-6 years.

I think this country will implode upon itself within 50 years, as more conservatives die off, and more, and more, Liberals are manufactured in our indoctrinating education system. The constitution will die, and people will see a totalitarian society. Thankfully I will be long gone by the time this country is controlled by Liberal lunatics, Homo's, and Muslims.

One of the ways to save our country "RIGHT NOW", is an Article V convention of the States, to keep a runaway Federal Government in check. And that would be a crapshoot at best

First of all we need to clean house. That means from top to bottom!!! This dirty house was built by us. Meaning the American people. We have let this happen by voting with our hearts, racial issues, promises by the candidates running, or just because the other guy running sucks worse than the other. The 2 party system is the worst thing to happen as well as the electoral voting system. Once in, after all the promises were made, they do what ever they want and we are stuck with it. I am not saying anyone here has voted this way but the people that have, right or wrong, are the majority, according to the electoral system, and that's what wins elections. Trickle down effect to me means, I got elected and I can help you get in as well. The "good ole' boy" ways have helped to keep this country going down hill. They breed like rats. When you have rats, you need to get rid of them. It's like trying to kill fire ants. You can get a few but the ones that are dug in deep still survive and re-populate. Things that are happening now would have never been tolerated years ago. I'm not saying that way back when they were all void of faults or haven't done wrong but this current government, state and national, AND the media has helped this downward spiral and there is only 1 way out. CLEAN THE HOUSE!!! How is that done? I have no idea other than the American people that are tired of this BS do something drastic and take back what's rightfully ours. An America that's by the people and for the people. Not a government lining their pockets, lying, cheating, making their own rules, and continue ruining the greatest country in the world. They need to read the Constitution again, if there still is one. Sorry for rambling..JMO

I'm no political wizard. But I will say this, I'm sure the answer isn't to bury our heads in the sand. And continue to get screwed by these BOZO'S. I really don't believe anyone should vote their salary and health benefits. ( Would be nice for all of us. But not economically possible. ). So why just for a select few? I guess we are just serfs. Your question as to how do we change them? People have to be willing to make it clear as mud. It isn't their place to set pay, retirement, and health care. The BOSS is in charge of that. ( US ). I hate to answer a question with a question. But how do the ANTIS get things taken away from sportsman. Answer, KAHONA's. And the majority need to think about growing some. Or I don't see thing changing.

The system is so utterly broke, it(country) will have to crash and hit rock bottom to change. I hate being a nah sayer but I try and look at things realistically. Its going to get a lot worse before it gets better. The American people don't understand hardtimes like generations in the past and most really don't care. They hold no value in anything important. When voting someone into office based on being a first for some minority group is priority over actual issues and substance, we are lost. And we already went there with Obama and are going to with Hilary. If people would come to the realization of were this country is at and not some dream of where it used to be or would like to be, it may help to change things, but Im not holding my breath.

^^^Agree...... I used to belong to a party and won't say which one cuz that will only cause hate and discontent and a huge debate. For years now I belong to NO party as they are ALL crooks with multiple skeletons in every closet. I still vote every year and try to do it with the most open, realistic and researched mind I can. It still goes back to the fact that we have to vote for the lesser of 2 evils. The media has dug deep to find all this crap and now the American people are stuck with it. "Joe Blow did this", "Bill so & so did this". There is no on free of fault but where does it end when the American people have to keep paying and paying and paying for all these bozos mistakes, hidden agendas, unbelievable remarks and lies.

Sayings you might remember that absolutely befuddle the mind.

"We have to pass the Health Care bill so we can see whats in it".Nancy Pelosi ARE YOU FRICKEN KIDDING ME??!!

"I have now been in 57 states. I have 1 more to go". Barrack Obama Seriously??!!!

"Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more than me to be Vice president of the USA. She probably might have been a better pick." Joe Biden our VP of the USA

Speaking to Chuck Graham who is in a wheelchair..."Stand up Chuck, Let em see ya'" VP Joe "the moron" Biden

"The reform we seek will bring greater competition, choice, savings and inefficiencies to our health care system" Barrack Obama

"I believe Natural Gas is a clean, cheap alternative to fossil fuels" Nancy Pelosi ?????

"I think it's unAmerican to enforce the Immigration Law" ...again...Nancy Pelosi WTF????

"Everyday we don't pass a stimulus bill 500 million Americans will lose their jobs" she said it twice!!! Guess who? Nancy "the idiot" Pelosi"

These are the people running this country.

Scares the sh*% out of me.

I don't know whats worse, the over all American public sticking its head in the sand and oblivious and unconcerned about whats going on. Or the criminals running the country.

And to think what we went to war over to rid ourselves of British rule in our beginning days compared what the government does to us now. Its depressing really.
