ndaniel Report post Posted May 8, 2007 Just curious as to what you guys would recommend for cleaning the lens of your binos? I am used to using my shirt for my eyeglasses and I don't want to get into that bad habit for my binos. Nate
BASS Report post Posted May 8, 2007 Well if you have ever owned a nice pair of sunglasses, they ussually give you a micro fiber cloth to clean them with. Each of my pairs of binos has it's own little cloth, and my spotting scope has it's own too. Ussually on the cooler hunts I rub a little scopedope on the lenses, then clean them with that. It keeps them from fogging up too much, and gets the hard grime off. When possible, try to keep the covers on them to keep dust and crap from gathering on the lenses. And when you go to clean them, first try to blow all the garbage off before you touch it. That way the little grain of sand in there isn't rubbed on the glass, scratcing it all up. I think sportsman's has some of the scopedope for like $5, and the microfiber cloth is near the sunglasses for about the same or cheaper.
elkhunter Report post Posted May 8, 2007 I used a microfiber cloth but only for bout 2 months, it started to get grit in it so I gave it to a friend of mine, I got a gift certificate so I'm gonna purchase the swarovski cleaning kit, includes microfiber cloths, brush, dust blower and cleaning fluid. I pretty much always clean my binos after a day in the feild, that really helps keep the lenses clean. Avoid those cleaning pens! They get grit onto em real fast! Get a microfiber cloth and keep it in a baggie so it's always clean and grit-free and that's what I'm doing now Good luck with your new binos dude!

tjhunt2 Report post Posted May 8, 2007 I use a swarovski cleaning kit that I purchased from Sportsman. It is a good idea to buy several optic brushes as well. I have several packs and keep one in each. They are inexpensive and can be purchase at just about any drugstore. They are quick to use after your glasses get dusty. COUESAZ Report post Posted May 8, 2007 I use the lens pin to brush the grit off then i use the shamy (spelling) cloth they sale at sportsmans to clean it the rest of the way. The brush keeps the grit off the cloth. If any smudges are on the lens then i blow my breath on it and rub it with the cloth. I do not use the end of the lens pin that has the little round peace as it will scratch the lens because it will hold dirt in it.
TLH Report post Posted May 9, 2007 Buash&Lomb Sight Savers. They are a pre-moistened lens cleaning tissue that really gets the muck off of your lenses. I keep about 30 in my back pack at all times--if you ever get blood on your lenses you will want to have a few of these little dudes with you.
