grizzly Report post Posted May 6, 2007 If the popular consensus is an indication then you need to start behind the Jacob lake store and drive around all of the roads with your quad and your bow in your lap until something jumps across the road. That place is a zoo.
runningbird Report post Posted May 6, 2007 I have not been up there in the last 3 years, but I always love it. Just don't sit a pond it will lead to a fight or frustration. I love to sit water holes but it never fails just before dark somebody on a quad or truck drives up get out and looks around and messes you up. there are too many places to list just don't over look the places that are not green and pretty. mark

Red Rabbit Report post Posted May 6, 2007 When I was up there last August, many areas of the Warm fire were sterile, but still patchwork of green. Might scout for a spot bucks are hitting the new greens, especially aspen shoots. Too much competition for water spots. RR
mulie hunter Report post Posted May 7, 2007 You can get away from the crowds if you, don't mind hiking. There are water holes off the beaten path, the ones near the roads get pounded. Get a USFS map. Don't forget your turkey tag.

ichiban43 Report post Posted May 31, 2007 Was up there last week--saw tons of deer--some will have some good racks. Take 67 S-1/4 mi--turn right. About 1/2 mile or so--just past the Forest service center--take the left to Jacob Lake. Go past the lake to the woods. Saw 10 deer there every morning drinking & grazing--but it is posted. There is the a jct of 282 & 682. Up 682 --.3 (3/10) miles on the right is a small meadow that contains a spring. I saw several deer in there and one budding buck. Back at the jct--go out the 282 about 3 1/2 miles or so. You will get into a bunch of very young growth. Looks like a reforestation project after an old fire maybe. Saw LOTS of deer in there, incuding another real nice budding buck. Another spot is 3 mi down the 282 and take a little dink road to the left. It goes down to a water hole and opens up into a long meadow. Looked promising. I was in there scouting around in the middle of the day--saw nada--but there were tracks around the waterhole. Good Luck!! BOB
