COOSEFAN Report post Posted May 4, 2007 dont spend that money on the leica's...if your going to spend that type of money go with swaros.....as younghunter said they have a smaller objective which means less light is being gathered...i compare the two everyday...swarovski's are better...some might disagree.....also look at the customer service swarovski gives you #1...no one can beat there customer service...the swaro 15's exit pupil is 3.73mm compared to the leicas when set at 15 power has a 3.33mm exit pupil...the bigger the exit pupil the more room your eyes have to move around when looking through them...also your going to have better eye relief as well...its not much of a difference but i like too look at it that way...plus i think the swaros have a lot more comfortable feel.... Hey DTB17....you are gettin' pretty darn good at your sales tactics.........this would have sold me! Casey.......it sounds as though you want us to say "go fer the Leicas"...........If YOU want the Leicas....go get em'! They would work just fine for ya...........but they aren't as good as the Swaro's I guarantee you will never regret owning a pair of Swaro 15X56's...........but you may regret NOT owning a pair JIM>

elkhunter Report post Posted May 4, 2007 swarovskis demo include a 2 year warranty, not a lifetime warranty. Not sure what the deal is with Leica when they're sold as demos. I prefer swarovski, those lieca eye cups are bound to get grit in em real fast, I looked at the same leica binos as you did Casey and the eye cups was my biggest comparison between the two, I leaned towards the comfort of swaros. hunter4life Report post Posted May 4, 2007 I have not used the duovids, but I have used trinovids, ultravids and geovids in hunting situations where you can really get a feel for how good they are in actual use conditions and they have all been excellent. I have used a number of different swarovski models including the 15x56's and they are very good as well. I guess what I am saying is that there really is not much of a difference between the two brands. The main plus I see with the duovids is that you get a great 10x and 15x binocular all in one and don't have to carry two pairs, switch them out on the tripod, or go digging through your pack when you want to use the other pair. Theoretically the swarovski 15's might be a little bit brighter, but there are a lot of variables other than objective lens size that fit into the equation. I have never seen an objective, side by side, comparison between the duovid and the 15x56 swaros carried out using the special charts for evaluating binoculars for resolution and how long they can still pick out detail after sunset so I cannot say which one will truly work better earlier at dawn and later after sunset. In your case, it sounds like the duovids are the best option but that decision is up to you.
TREESTANDMAN Report post Posted May 4, 2007 you said you are only going to have one pair of binos....why not buy the swaro 15's then buy the nikon monarchs the 10x42 are only $300.....the monarchs are an amazing pair of binos for their price you cant beat it......instead of buying the duovids which like christian said are $450 more.....buy the nikons and and swaros.....nikons have a great warranty also...its a 25 year no fault warranty.....just something to think about This is what I would recommend as well. That is the set up I have and I love it!! The swarvos would probably sell better in the future as well if you ever needed to sell them just because they seem to be more popular. Coues79 Report post Posted May 4, 2007 firstcoueswas80, I am assuming that you are referring to gr8tfuldougs prices on the binoculars. If you go to his website, you can find that with the swaro's he has posted that they come with the adapter. This can be a little pricey for those dang things. That's a good bargain right there. The leica's from what I can see would have to have an adapter bought. Right there, you are getting pretty close to the original price for the swaro's. Plus the swaro's are a brand new pair. It's interesting that you are contemplating this scenario. I am in the exact same scenario as you. I am trying to determine what to do as well. I have also considered the exact scenario as downthebarrell had mentioned, in purchasing the swaro's and the monarch 10x42's to have around my neck. I like the monarch's really well. The 10x56 Nikon's add the weight pretty good, so I would opt to have the 10x42's, but that's a personal opinion. Very interesting that we have the same issues racking our brains. I can't wait until I have either scenario happen. I've been wanting great glass for quite some time now. It's great to see it in the near future. Good luck with your purchase. I'd test them side by side before I choose.
Becker Report post Posted May 4, 2007 You know those big name brands give you good deals if you have a guides license! I think you can get a pair of Swaros for around 1400. Might want to check into that.

Might want to check into that. That was true, but at least with Swaro's I was told that they were doing away with the Outfitter deal. Don't know for sure, just what I was told. firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted May 5, 2007 Hate to say it Scott, but Jimbo is right! when out client killed that buck, i couldnt find my Zeiss' so i grabbed his 8.5's (he had his 15's ) and watched the buck fall through those and they were awesome! From Gr8fuldoug, both pairs come with a tripod adapter. the leicas come with a 10 year warranty. i am leaning that way and am going to compare the leicas and swaros side by side in low light on sunday. this will determine what i buy. i have a line on some leicas for $300 under demo cost! if i can get those i will get those no matter what! Good luck to ya, JIM>
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted May 5, 2007 i m really leaning towards the leicas as i would be getting two pairs of binos. i can only afford one pair, and it sure would be nice to have 10x for archery or close quarters hunting.
tjhunt2 Report post Posted May 5, 2007 I own the 10x50's swaro and have barrowed my neighbors 15x56's for gamehaulers sheep hunt and I was able to look all day without any eye stain. I also recently sent my bino's back to be repaired from a bad fall and they repaired without a receit and no costs to me. You really have some great replies. I would say you can't go wrong but my next pair will be swaro.
