firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted May 4, 2007 so, since i sold my Zeiss, i have to get a new pair of binos. i am looking at the Leica Duovid 10-15x50's and Swarovski 15x56's. this will be the only pair of binos i have so i am looking at getting the leicas at the demo price because they are cheaper then the swaros. and i get basically two pairs of binos. what do you guys think?? IHunt2live Report post Posted May 4, 2007 Personaly, from those to choices from I would go with Leica. I don't have much experience with both of those but if it going to be the only pair you have the 10-15X is a little more versitial. some situations the 15X allow might be to powerfull. Just my $.02, something to think about.
fatfootdoc Report post Posted May 4, 2007 Have you tried them both for fit? I went to sportsmans dead set on the leica duovid, but could not get them adjusted for my big head and they just did not fit me right. The Swaros were awesome. Lot of money to spend for glass that you might not be able to use well. They are just like shoes, try them on first!! AG
Giladad1 Report post Posted May 4, 2007 I've owned & used both extensively. I prefer the Leicas simply for the versitility. Like two binos for one The Outdoorsmans makes a tripod adaptor. My son still uses my old 15x Swaros. We've compared them alot, can't see any diff in the glass. Mark
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted May 4, 2007 i have used both of them. i know the swaros fit me, but i need to spend som emore time behind the Leicas.
azcouesandelk Report post Posted May 4, 2007 They are both great bino's but the only thing with the leicas is that they only have a 50mm objective so you will not be able to get as much light in for first and last light. I have looked through both alot and I prefer the swarovski's but it is all about what fits you best.
111 Report post Posted May 4, 2007 I prefer the Swaro's, I feel they gather light better. The price and size of the 15's Swarovski are some negatives.
azcouesandelk Report post Posted May 4, 2007 I guess I dont understand what you guys are talking about with the swarovskis price being a factor since the leica duivoid 10-15x50 is $450 more than the 15x56 swarovskis. I think it is swaros hands down.
azryan Report post Posted May 4, 2007 dont spend that money on the leica's...if your going to spend that type of money go with swaros.....as younghunter said they have a smaller objective which means less light is being gathered...i compare the two everyday...swarovski's are better...some might disagree.....also look at the customer service swarovski gives you #1...no one can beat there customer service...the swaro 15's exit pupil is 3.73mm compared to the leicas when set at 15 power has a 3.33mm exit pupil...the bigger the exit pupil the more room your eyes have to move around when looking through them...also your going to have better eye relief as well...its not much of a difference but i like too look at it that way...plus i think the swaros have a lot more comfortable feel.... Diamondbackaz Report post Posted May 4, 2007 I compared them both when I was buying and ended up with the swaros. Warranty is another issue you need to look at and research.
azryan Report post Posted May 4, 2007 you said you are only going to have one pair of binos....why not buy the swaro 15's then buy the nikon monarchs the 10x42 are only $300.....the monarchs are an amazing pair of binos for their price you cant beat it......instead of buying the duovids which like christian said are $450 more.....buy the nikons and and swaros.....nikons have a great warranty also...its a 25 year no fault warranty.....just something to think about

firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted May 4, 2007 if i get leicas they are gonna be at demo price which is $150 cheaper then the swaros. i dont think .4 mm will make any difference of the exit pupil. call me crazy but thats what i think. cant afford swaros and nikons.. i cant afford either pair, i have to get a new credit card or sell some guns to be able to get them! azcouesandelk Report post Posted May 4, 2007 Why not get a pair of 15x56 swaros for the demo price for $1600 that way you save $400 from the original price and you get what I think is a better set of binos. Also if you can get a larger exit pupil no matter how small it is always worth it.
