murfys69law Report post Posted April 27, 2015 I have 4 different rounds that work great in my Browning A bolt 300 WM. Left to right they are, 180grn rem cor-loct (reload), 180grn Bronze point (reload), 180 grn ballistic tip (factory), and 180 grn accubond (factory). They all group well. I have a unit 10 bull late rifle tag after 8 years and this may be my last one. I hope not but i ain't gettin any younger. I really would like to take a nice bull before I'm gone and don't wanna take a chance of missing one with a round that doesn't put him down quick. I have shot 1 deer with the core-locs and 1 deer with the ballistic tip. Both deer have dropped in their tracks. The ballistic tip tho I could have drove a truck thru the whole in him. Lost a lot of meat. I realize shot placement is the key factor and I have no problem with with placement. Just your opinions on what has worked the best for you. Thanks in advance. Hoss50 Report post Posted April 27, 2015 #1 or #4 of the choices you have. I like Nosler Partitions, especially on heavy things like bull elk, but the placement of the shot is more important then the round though. I don't think I would use the #3 BT on an elk. Just personal opinion on that. I like ballistic tips but on smaller, thinner game.
murfys69law Report post Posted April 27, 2015 Thanks Hoss50. I was leaning towards the Accubond. I did have a friend I helped in 87' drop a small bull with the Bronze point from about 550yrds. Very impressive round I thought.

.270 Report post Posted April 27, 2015 anything but the ballistic tip. the other 3 should work well. i shoot nothing but 165 gr btsp hornady interloks outta my .300's. seems to do fine. i wouldn't use ballistic tips on an elk. not a fan at all of copper bullets either. dse Report post Posted April 28, 2015 Accubond is easily the best in that line up. Core loc second
murfys69law Report post Posted April 28, 2015 Thanks guys. I believe that was what my heart was telling me to use. Now you all confirmed it. Accubond and a 350+ bull coming my way.
lancetkenyon Report post Posted April 28, 2015 Whatever shoots BEST! Shot placement is priority #1. Shots could be long in 10 on the late hunt. Accubond are better LR bullets, but you need to see which one shoots best at 500 yards. And when I used to shoot NBTs, I heard the .308" 180s were a different animal than the lighter .308" projectiles.

The 180 is the best grn I found for my gun.

Zeke-BE Report post Posted April 29, 2015 Accurbonds!!!! They fly great and penetrate well. Don't use ballistic on an elk especially in unit 10. Most of the hunters I hunt with in 10 rarely get a shot opportunity less than 300 yards.
couesbuck22 Report post Posted June 24, 2015 I killed my bull last year with a hornady 180 grain spbt acculock I put three in him at 60 yards and they didn't come out put all of his vitals we're liquified, lungs in golf ball sized pieces heart blown in half as well as his liver, hardly any meat loss. Using that load again this year
wayno945 Report post Posted June 24, 2015 Shoot each into a row of water jugs and see how they perform. The accubonds will probably give you the best combo of penetration / weight retention of your choices.
452b264 Report post Posted June 24, 2015 Out of the four, the Accubond, but if given the choice I would use the Partition 180 or 200 gr, thats all I ever used in my 300 win, and everything dropped from a single round including the bull in my avatar. Good luck on your hunt.
