Mathews Report post Posted April 23, 2015 With verizon we can send texts almost anywhere, and places you can't its a short hike to get somewhere you can. Calls are spotty like everyone said but its not impossible. Scouting that early you wanna be looking for location rather than animals.. Between the rut and thousands of tags before the late hunt ever starts the elk you see that early will most likely not be there in November. Dunno if you've had the tag before but don't be set on one glassing point from your scouting, you'll be competing with hundreds of other people. Best bet is to have multiple backup plans or be prepared to be on the hill VERY early. Tough hunt but stay optimistic and you'll have fun. Ill be out there with a tag along with two of my buddies. PM me if you have any questions
BowHuntAZ Report post Posted April 23, 2015 Try renting a sat phone. I rented one last year on my sons n kaibab hunt and it worked great. I think it was about 70 bucks for the week and they shipped it to my door I like this idea. If we each rent a sat phone then we don't have to be tied down to one phone booster (or spend hundreds each to have one) plus we can carry it in our packs. Do you have the name of the place you rented it?

PM me if you have any questions Sounds like the consensus is that Verizon has the best signal in the Bo area, luckily that's what we both have. Part of my scouting this fall will be figuring out where we do have cell service. Might have enough signal that we don't have to drop the coin on a sat phone or phone booster. I appreciate your input on how to hunt and I mean no disrespect but I am seasoned enough to know to stay mobile and that an animal won't be in the same spot in August or September as he will be in November, which is why I didn't start one of those "honey hole" threads, cause I know the elk are where they are and they can cover tons of ground in a day. Thanks for putting it out there though. We will be hunting before you guys (early Nov. muzzy) and with a whole lot less people than the late rifle hunt. Another question I do have for anyone that's hunted this area post rut, are the elk pretty much spread out throughout the whole unit or did you notice a trend in elevation or terrain they stuck to in higher numbers? Feel free to PM if you don't want the whole world knowing. Thanks again everyone for chiming in and giving your advice and input. Here's some pics of my previous success. I've been strictly hunting archery the last few years and this will be my first muzzleloader elk tag. Been 10+ years since I've shot a bull with anything but a bow.
kazpilot25 Report post Posted April 23, 2015 It's my experience that Verizon is the best pretty much anywhere in the state. Every time we go out I never have service and have to borrow a phone from a friend to call and check in with the wife. I have AT&T, friends are all on Verizon. kazpilot25 Report post Posted April 23, 2015 I just picked up a Wilson Sleek 4g brand new in the box from ebay for $75 delivered. There are deals to be had on there for the Wilson cell boosters. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

BowHuntAZ Report post Posted April 24, 2015 KAZ let me know how that Wilson works out for you. Lv3hnt do you know if Healy ships free like Flatline does from their website? I live across town from Healy and I'd spend enough in gas to get there and back that I could've bought another GMU map. Thanks for all the great tips guys!
