If you guys buy and carry a small digital recorder in your pocket, you'll save lots of paper and gather many more details of your hunts. It's also great for recording details of a scouting trip, especially if you use the recorder along with a GPS unit. -TONY

That's an excellent idea. I have a hard time practicing what I preach. I think I could easier talk in a recorder than take the time to write it down and then transfer it over later into a field log/diary. Any suggestions on a not so expensive but good one to use for the field?

Well the good thing with digital is that you can record an awful lot of stuff on a very small item. I have a cheap ( I think like $20) one I bought from an office supply store that works great. I can record up to two hours of straight talking. I use to use it for our club meetings when I first became the secretary and couldn't keep up when they were having a debate. That would also be cool to have so you could record the elk talking around you.

Hey bass, thanks for sharing that with me. I don't know why I never thought of this before. I'm going to follow up on this one for sure. :D

You can buy a digital recorder from about $30 on up to $500! I use an Olympus WS-310 that cost me about $100. It will record up to 138 hrs. Do a Google search and also check out eBay and Amazon.com.

Prior to going digital, I used a mini-cassette recorder for years. A recorder makes keeping notes on the details of a hunt or a photo expedition a snap, which is crucial to what I do. -TONY
