Coach Report post Posted April 20, 2015 Spent the weekend hunting turkey with the boys. This youth OTC hunt is one of, if not the best programs AZGFD does for kids. We didn't make it to the youth camp up by Reservation Lake but it was great to see the kids out there. Opening morning it was 16 degrees at camp, as low as 13 on our drive to our first setup. The first morning it was just Josh (my youngest) and I since Nick had a baseball game. We had gobblers all around us opening morning - so close we had to back out and get ahead of them. After a couple unsuccessful setups, Josh got it done around 7:30. He's now 3 for 3 on opening day toms. We drove around a bit and had to go to town to pick up a generator since mine died but took some pix along the way. Friday night, after Nick's game Carrie brought the older boys out to camp. Nick and I got up at 3:30 and set up on a spot Josh and I had several strutting birds the first morning but couldn't get in on. The birds came in, but just hens - one with a beard that Nick opted not to take. We kept moving and calling. We got close several times - had gobblers get right to us just out of range. Finally about 7:45 it came together and Nick put one down around 35 yards out. This morning we all slept in and had some deer run through camp. 19 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
