brent Report post Posted April 18, 2015 My guess: They were fenced off cattle corrals that don't get used any more. The lack of grass in the stalls from the cattle being stuffed in there allowed for trees to sprout. They were not used anymore, and the trees went wild. It is my understanding that there used to be a lot more grassland in az that has since been overrun by juniper trees as a result of over grazing. No grass = no competition for young tree seedlings.
