naturegirl Report post Posted April 16, 2015 I’ve been following her progress as this nest was used last year too. She has reared two baby doves this year. She has a few predators she needs to look out for in my neighborhood (see below). This was taken from my front gate last weekend. I was watching a dove struggle across the dirt road and I knew it was hurt. It was odd how many other doves were gathering to watch this dove try to get across the road. I then turned my back for a second and when I turned back around this male Harris Hawk had grabbed one of the dozen or so bystander doves. He’s a smart hunter J This is the second gopher snake this year on my road, but this one was very much alive. I encouraged him to go on his way so he can PLEASE kill some gophers! I thought about picking him up and taking him back to my place and guiding him down the gopher holes, but he decided to act like a rattlesnake and it worked – I was intimidated! Beautiful little hearts that are blooming up north. Lots and lots of these gals out in the forest. This is a first for me – A chrome car! I think I saw AZL driving it!!!! JK Oops! That's a bad day at the lake for someone. A second wrecker was pulling up to assist. Amazing wingspan! It's time for a bird bath

PRDATR Report post Posted April 16, 2015 Thanks for posting them. How did that truck get down there? It doesn't look like it rolled although there does appear to be a slight dirt road near the pavement.

Not very much damage at all though for rolling.

Havasuhunter Report post Posted April 23, 2015 Awesome pics. I've been told by Falconer friends that Harris Hawks are one of the most intelligent birds of prey. Sounds like that one was hunting with a decoy? I've been enjoying watching all the birds this spring too. I have about 25 cotton balls on legs running around with the adult quail now and the first white wings have finally migrated back here from Mexico. Most exciting thing is I've kept the pigeons from nesting anywhere on my house, so far!
