3 Free youth turkey hunting camps

Recommended Posts

3 different camps setting up this weekend to help youth learn to hunt turkeys! Totally free, including food, drinks, snacks, Thursday thru Sunday. Mentors will take out youths and their parent or guardian to help them learn turkey hunting. Class-like training in camp also.

The camps are setting up in the White Mountains for units 1 and 27, Colcord Ridge for units 3C, 4A, 4B and 23, and Happy Jack for unit 6A.

Go to the Youth Outdoors Unlimited website calendar for links on maps, registration and more info. Here's the link: http://www.youthoutdoorsunlimited.com/upcoming_events/

Mentors needed and camp help needed in all camps. Very rewarding experience helping these kids learn to hunt. Please consider volunteering to help out. Contact info on the link provided.

Thank you, Tommy Martin aka Couestracker.

I registered to take my son up the the White Mountain camp. It sounds like a great experience for both of us as I have never turkey hunted either. Due to work, we won't be able to get up there till late Thursday evening. Will that affect his ability to get a mentor to help? Is it a first come first serve thing with mentors? When I registered him a few weeks ago I offered to help with any I can in camp, but didn't hear anything back about that. Should I speak with someone about helping?

Thanks

All hunters will be taken out by a mentor, even if they have a few hunters. It's nice of you to offer to help in camp. You'll have to be with your son out in the field, but while in camp I'm sure your offer to help will be appreciated. Talk to the camp host when you arrive. Good luck to your son!

They usually pair up hunters with their mentors Thursday evening hopefully there will be some mentors remaining. It all depends on how many mentors they have. Last year there were a lot more hunters then mentors and with the amount of kids showing up this year I would imagine the mentors will go quickly. I have sent you a PM.

To clarify, the Happy Jack camp also supports the 5A and 5B otc youth tags, not just the 6A youth lottery tags. Its a great camp and I'm sorry I have to miss it this year. They really need mentors down there, too!

The most important thing to anyone turkey hunting is patience. Its hard even for a veteran turkey hunter, so real hard for kids. They wanna see action...............BOB!

I will be up in the youth camp at the north end of 23 in the Colcord camp ground this evening for the weekend. I hope to see a bunch of turkeys already taken by the time I get there.

Yes! Good luck to all hunters!

Also, BIG kudos to Y.O.U. for all that organization does in support of junior hunters/fishers in AZ! Great job to all who contribute their time, resources, and passion!!!!
