Falconry and rabbit fields

Recommended Posts

I have a pack of 5 Harris hawks that live in my big pine tree in my front yard. Feel free to come grab one anytime you want. Sometimes it gets a little "furry/feathery" in my front yard. Anyone need a "lucky cat's foot"? I had two this week. One black, one orange tabby. They are amazing pack hunters and amazing to watch. And they could not give two squirts about my 4 dogs. Brave suckers. Sit on my 5' fence and stare down at my dogs as they point them up.

I also have a family of 3 Great horned owls that live very close. I hear/see them a couple times a week at night.

Took a road trip to Albuquerque this weekend to fly with some friends and family and met some new falconers from back east. We flew a bunch of birds and took a bunch of game. Flew 2 big Gyr/Saker hybrids, 2 aplomados and 5 Harris Hawks. Great weekend cut a little short but was work the trip.

Way cool guys! Thanks for sharing your pics. One of my assistant professors at the UofA had a falconer's permit and a trained horned owl. That owl was the best decoy for a dho gaza trap set you could ever get! We used him a lot to trap gray hawks down on the San Pedro for his graduate degree program. Being close to those talons gives you a whole new respect for Raptors.

Those Harris hawks are pretty cool for sure!

Man that is too cool! I could only imagine how much fun that would be! I remember years ago when I was in middle school a kid down the street from my house found a super young hawk in his front yard. He told me it was hoping around like it was lost. He took it in and cared for it for years. I remember that hawk getting huge and was very tame.

where did you find your sponsor ? I am very interested in getting into it.

Your best bet to find a sponsor is to go to a falconry meet. Next one is in kingman january 28-31. Best advise I can give you is go to the meet. Make some friends with faloners in your area and go hawking with them. Then ask about them sponsoring you. If you study and pass the test before all that then you'll put yourself ahead of the game and they will take you more serious as you've already passed the exam and are ready for the next step.
