Schmitty Report post Posted April 12, 2015 My wife hit the jackpot and pulled an early rifle bull tag in Unit 10 this upcoming Sept. She is left handed/left eye dominant and up until now, she has been shooting RH rifles left handed. I'd like to surprise her with her very own rifle built for Southpaws. I've looked around locally, but pickings are slim. I can always special order something, but I figured I'd ask here first. There's a gunshow in town that I'll check out tomorrow as well, but I'm not too hopeful. I'd prefer a LH Rem 700 long or short action with a standard boltface (.484") that I can rebarrel to a .260 or 6.5-06, so caliber isn't important. I'm open to Savage, Tikka, etc. as well. Please let me know what you have! Thanks! Schmitty
apache12 Report post Posted April 12, 2015 There is a left hand browning x bolt with a monarch scope on back page. 308 chamber Tikka in 243 not sure that one will work. Good luck on the rifle and her hunt.
rossislider Report post Posted April 12, 2015 Lots of great rifles to chose from. I'm a big Tikka fan and own two, a 7-08 and a 7mm Rem Mag. For an awesome tag like your wife has, I'd definitely go with the largest caliber (for distance/energy down range) that she can handle. I personally wouldn't want to take the chance of limiting a shot opportunities because of the rifle. Any caliber can be manageable with a good brake. For example, my 10 year old son has no problem shooting my 300 RUM with a brake. All things considered, I'd go with a 7mm Rem Mag.

murfys69law Report post Posted April 12, 2015 Bought a 270 wsm 3 years ago and this is my go to rifle for anything so far. Hard hitting and flat shooting and a woman could handle this with no problem. Haven't killed an elk with it yet but plan on it this fall with a unit 10 bull tag. I will however take my 300 win mag as back up. IMHO
