eltaco Report post Posted April 12, 2015 Guilty as charged, I guess. This will be my first time in AZ, and I am also coincidentally new to the forum. That said, I think most people go searching for forums when they are looking to learn about things they don't yet know, and this forum seemingly has the most information on the web regarding my particular interests (elk hunting in AZ). While I am new to this forum, I also regularly log in to ArcheryTalk, Rokslide, Elknut, TacomaWorld, etc. I've been a member of all of those forums for a number of years now, but originally started when I was looking to learn about topics I didn't have a full understanding of prior to joining. Also, I did FINALLY draw a tag in AZ, and Flatlander is again correct in saying that I haven't been to the state to scout prior to putting in this year. That makes 5 years of entering the draw without ever stepping foot in a unit. I understand that might sound odd to some, but I basically get enough time each year to scout and hunt a week to week and a half in the area that I've actually drawn. Any time spent in AZ would have meant not investing time in the hunt that I was directly preparing for each year. If I had the opportunity to realize success, my remaining time was spent helping others harvest and so taking time to go where nobody has a tag simply didn't hit the top of my To-Do list. Additionally, my unit selections have changed from year to year as I further my research, and my drawn tag this year was a brand new unit entry this season, so any time scouting other units would not have directly related to the one I have actually drawn. I'm also NOT at all looking for anybody's secret spots or anything of the such. I'm researching techniques, bull quality, harvest stories, road conditions/closures, water availability, etc. to determine how best to approach my unit. My scouting on the ground will tell me the rest of what I need to know, and I'm quite confident that I will locate elk without secret GPS coordinates. There is a lot of info to be gleaned from the web that gives me a HUGE jump start without ever spending the gas money and time away from family. I know already that I won't be going on my first scouting trip completely blind, as I have researched the area enough to know areas of interest going in. Lastly, I'm here to gain information just as much as I give it. I've hunted ID, UT, and CO, and also apply to WY and AZ (neither of which I've yet scouted). I've had the pleasure of hunting bull elk each year with a bow for a number of seasons and recognize that this is not a privilege that everyone has in some states, so I come with a bit of knowledge and experience from surrounding areas. You can also look me up on other forums to quickly find that I've spent oodles of time helping with bow setup and tuning, backpacking gear selection, and elk hunting techniques. I understand the concern as this time of year inevitably brings a fresh wave of new faces, but bear with us as we're all trying to learn and improve our skills in the woods. I look forward to making some good friends here and having a place to turn to when we're all looking for some uplift when times get tough this Fall! Nothing beats having a community of guys in the area to share experiences and information on elk behavior and activity when September finally rolls around. idgaf Report post Posted April 12, 2015 First Post: I finally drew Unit X archery bull, been waiting 7 years for this tag! So excited to get started, going scouting this weekend. Second Post (4 days later): I drew unit X archery bull, never been there before (no, not even once during the 7 years I waited for the tag). Not looking for any honey holes just some general info. Third Post (Reply to second post): Thanks for the info but that info is cut and pasted right out of the regs. I was looking for a little more specific info and some places I can get away from the crowds. (Why wouldn't someone want to post that on the Internet). Fourth Post (4 months later): I am desperate, I really need some help on where to hunt on my archery bull hunt, money has been real tight and with gas prices like they are and my kids in sports and busy at work I just haven't been able to get out much. (So hopefully a bunch of you have different priorities and have sacrificed other things in life to be able to have quality hunts do t mind just handing that hard earned information over to any weekend warrior who stumbles onto this site.) Fifth Post: her guys I don't see what the big deal is, I mean isn't that what this site is all about, hinter's helping hunters? You missed a post. The one where they have not shot a bow since their last unit xx september bull tag and need advice on which bow to get.
az300wby Report post Posted April 12, 2015 Newbies please only post pics. You need to be a Premier Member before you can get solid advice. Really! I don't know anyone that hasn't asked for advice. If you don't want to help then don't. I want to thank those who have shared advice on my out of state hunts and in state hunts. Most non residents do not have the means to scout as much as in state hunters. Thought this website was hunters helping fellow hunters. Regardless of where they live.

Relax, not making fun of noobs as much as the redundant trend of questions. I have taken many noobs to some very good spots for little more than a thank you and a sandwich on a tail gate. Also, at the rate I post I will not be a premier member for another nine or ten years.

Anybody who peruses this site will learn many things. There is a lot of help on this site, given and taken. Apparently you believe CWT members should roll out the red carpet and escort e scouters to the finest areas in AZ. That's not fair to people who've EARNED those spots. There is a line that should not be crossed.

az300wby Report post Posted April 12, 2015 idgaf, I do think it is funny the way some people ask for advice. Agreed on that point. I just feel that as hunters we should help each other out. No red carpet and honey holes just useful information.

longshooter Report post Posted April 12, 2015 E scouting is kind of like Obama care and welfare if you ask me. If you need help in a unit then purchase a scouting package from a outfitter or get off your butt and pay your dues.

No red carpet and honey holes just useful information. Agreed and when treated properly and when time permits of course I will give them their desired information. But with that same respect when not treated properly, I will either ignore the requests or they become the brunt of jokes.

Everyone scouts for you and you reap the rewards at no cost. Is it possible to receive these types of benifits if your over forty and a premier member? Please help I have a 6b early bull rifle tag, I need to know where to sign up for this E-scouting program. Thanks in advance.

Flatlander Report post Posted April 12, 2015 Eltaco- I wouldn't say guilty as charged. If you read what I wrote, it clearly doesn't describe you or what you've been doing. I would think you should know well enough from the conversations we've had, if you can come in and contribute, you'll fit right in here. Just don't be the chump who posts 5x milks info from everyone else and never brings anything to the table. That's what we are making light of here.
