BowHuntAZ Report post Posted April 9, 2015 Biased it maybe but it is a public forum with plenty of Chevy, Ford and Dodge owners, I would figure if anybody went to a Tundra then went back to another make would chime in..... the complete opposite has been the responses. I'll chime in now that you drug me into it. I've owned Fords since I started driving. They are bullet proof vehicles except I was never fully satisified with their engines. In 2008 I switched to a Tundra for two reasons. 1. Good price and 2. I wanted to try out the new 5.7L. That was about the only thing I really loved about my Tundra (the motor). I lifted it, put 35's on it and used it for what it's meant for, but not too rough on it. Besides the power steering pump blowing out all of the seals and dumping my PS fluid into my CV boots and leaving me stranded once I never had any major problems. This happened on a city street sitting at a stop light, not like it was being abused and I only had about 20000 miles on it at the time. I will tell you that the front end was the weakest link on the whole truck. I couldn't put it through anything that I used to take my Ford's through without needing an alignment. My Ford's never had that issue. Then I started getting noises in the front end that NOBODY could figure out. I went to 4 different shops including one Toyota dealer and nobody could make it stop clunking. During my search for this mystery clunk it got me under the truck looking everywhere and that's when I noticed the radiator was about shot and was leaking slowly. This truck only had 60,000 miles on it and was falling apart on me. And I will honestly say that I never abused it like I have my Fords in the past. So long story short... I own a Ford again and am never looking back. The new 6.2L in my Raptor has plenty of power and this truck has zero bump steer that my Tundra had on and offroad. I may not get the best MPG now (actually about the same as the lifted Tundra, same size tires) and to all you Tundra owners that want to claim their 5.7L is faster than the 6.2L Ford, put 35's on it first and add the extra 500 pounds of stronger parts (wider axles and control arms and solid frame) then think again. I had to put this in here because that's the first thing the envious Tundra owners will claim. I didn't buy the truck to be a race truck, I just wanted reliability and something with enought power to get me where I need to go however fast I want to get there and then stay together long enough to get me back out of those places. I am in no way intending to bash on anyone's truck, just giving my opinion from being on both sides of this. I loved my Tundra, besides the problems mentioned above, but I love my Ford even more. rossislider Report post Posted April 9, 2015 I have a Sequoia and it is a typical Toyota meaning quality is boring it is built so well. Pretty much zero problems, it is a beast of a vehicle and still tows very well. The old nav system and all the goofy safety features that are way overboard on the infotainment system are the only downsides but the updates over the last couple of years are supposed to make it much better. I know they greatly improved the Lexus systems in the last 3 years which are similar. All that being said I must be the only one intrigued by the new Fords which went on a 700lb diet and the guys I know that have them absolutely love the ecoboost engines. Still seems wired to not have a V8 but the only people I hear bashing the changes are the ones that don't own them. I am waiting for the new Raptor at this point. I was planning to buy a Tundra but I have to agree with those that pointed out that the newest body style moved Toyota from best to worst for styling in my opinion. Again, NOT KNOCKING THE TUNDRA, AWESOME TRUCK, but the new Fords are pretty sweet. I was recently in the market and ended up going with a Ford. The V6 3.5 liter engine doesn't sound like much until you do a side by side comparison. My twin turbo V6 with ecoboost will tow 11,000 pounds, and after driving it for a week I am averaging about 23 mpg. But like I said previously, it all depends on what you want out of a truck. My priorities were towing 10,000+ pounds, non diesel, best possible mpg. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Ringer Report post Posted April 9, 2015 I went from a POS Ford F250 with a 6.0 that cost me $14200 in repairs in a year to a 2011 Tundra Rock Warrior. Best truck I ever owned and I have owned them all. I like the newer style so am thinking about selling mine to buy a 2015 this year. Great truck and pulls the boat great. AverageJoe Report post Posted April 9, 2015 Not sure if toyota fixed the problem with the 2014&15s or not but with many previous models if you lift it, even a leveling kit, you will blow out the steering rack.
