Toyota Tundra Owners..... Yea or nay

Recommended Posts

My 2000 Tundra V8 4x4, ~118xxx, is a very nice rig. I just brought into modern times with a set of FJ 17in wheels to replace the stock 16in-ers. She looks great!

I've had 2 tundras an will hopefully never own anything different. I love them. Never had any problems with them an love the power. Only reason I bought a new one an traded in my 2008 was to get a crewmax. Actually even think I liked my 2008 better than my 2014, not for any particular reason I just loved that truck.

+1000 on the tundra. I have owned em all and I don't ever see me driving anything but a tundra. Tough truck! Mine has a 6" lift with 35s and still drives awesome unlike most lifted trucks. If you are towing a lot you may want to wait for the diesel. Mine tows the rv ok just likes to stop at every station on the way! And hey it's a Toyota..... It will run forever!!!!!!

Well you all almost have me convinced to get rid of my 91 S-10 with the 4.3 and 240,000 miles, gets 20 mpg. The only thing I tow with it is a small trailer but it will tow my cj-5.

The new tundra 1794's are the nicest trucks ever made. You have to jack it up with rims to seal the deal though. Getting one for my 18th bday and trading in my dodge

I went with a Titan because the rear seats flipped up as well as down. Up position leaves the floor wide open. In 2007 the Tundra didn't do that. So far at 150xxx only tiny little issues of age are starting to show. I did just need brakes for the first time as well as replace the starter due to a sticky selenoid. Other than the usual maintenance thats all its needed. 4x4 and 5.6 gets right about 16 in city. Tundras are nice though.

I really don't have an opinion either way and certainly don't mean this as an insult to anyone here, but a question like this tends to bring out biased responses. Ask the same thing about Fords, Chevrolets, Nissans, etc. and you'll get the same types of responses from fans of those trucks. For me it really cones down to what you want out of your truck, looks, towing, MPG, etc. They all have their strengths.

Biased it maybe but it is a public forum with plenty of Chevy, Ford and Dodge owners, I would figure if anybody went to a Tundra then went back to another make would chime in..... the complete opposite has been the responses.

There is a reason why I don't want to purchase another Chevy or Dodge... (and its not because they make bad trucks...I am mad on the government hand out they took)

Rossi- I disagree, most Tundra owners have been other truck owners due to the relative short time of Tundra production. Very rarely do you have Tundra owners that revert back to the other brands.

1. Reliability is King, and though the Tundra isn't perfect. Many of us do not have thousands of disposable income to buy a vehicle and keep putting money into fixing problems. For the most part Tundras just don't have problems...Even the first few years didn't have many issues..my dad has a 2001 Tundra with 320k. He had a fuel pump go out at 270k, that's it.

A person may prefer the looks and style or individual features of other brands but for most of us the reliability trumps any quirks the Tundra has. It is the best value overall, just look at resale.

I have owned a ford powerstroke, dodge power wagon, and now I own a lifted '08 tundra. The ford and the Dodge were great trucks but my tundra rides a 100x smoother than both trucks and has by far way more room than the other two. As far as power goes the tundra has plenty of power for me and tows great. I loved my power wagon but will never buy another dodge because of the unfixable death wobble.

Had a 2007 Tundra for 7 years. Awesome truck and the only problem I ever had was the water pump went out at about year 6. Only reason I got rid of it last year was because I got a toy hauler and needed something with better towing capacity. Got a 2014 Ram 2500 and have been very happy with it. If I didn't need the extra towing I would have kept the Tundra.

Like I said I have owned em all. Domestic gas, diesel, 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton. If american trucks were made as good I would go back in a heartbeat but they aren't. I am hard on trucks and even my friends that have domestics comment how much they like my tundra. The front ends are way overbuilt and are sized like a 3/4 ton. Don't take my word for it go look for yourself. Can they pull like a diesel? Heck no... Do they have the mph of the eccoboost? Nope. But they are tough with good amount of creature comforts and handle amazing even with a lift. If you check it out most of the tundras are actually made here in America. They are a solid truck period. To be fair I will point out a couple flaws. Mpg isn't great, paint is a little thin and chips easy and interior plastics can scratch/ show a different color. I have a black interior and scratches show a blueish color. I've got 140,000 on mine, 2010 and it's going strong. Only standard pm stuff, I am going to replace the hubs this year but that is due to the lift and that is on me and how I drive it. You won't have buyers remorse!!!!

I don't disagree with any of you on anything anyone has said here. The Tundra is a great tuck. I'm just suggesting everyone consider the title of the thread, "Toyota Tundra Owners....Yea or Nay". Might draw a lot of attention from those that prefer the other truck because of this title.

I have a Sequoia and it is a typical Toyota meaning quality is boring it is built so well. Pretty much zero problems, it is a beast of a vehicle and still tows very well. The old nav system and all the goofy safety features that are way overboard on the infotainment system are the only downsides but the updates over the last couple of years are supposed to make it much better. I know they greatly improved the Lexus systems in the last 3 years which are similar.

All that being said I must be the only one intrigued by the new Fords which went on a 700lb diet and the guys I know that have them absolutely love the ecoboost engines. Still seems wierd to not have a V8 but the only people I hear bashing the changes are the ones that don't own them. I am waiting for the new Raptor at this point.

I was planning to buy a Tundra but I have to agree with those that pointed out that the newest body style moved Toyota from best to worst for styling in my opinion.
