Bald Eagle & other photos from my canoe trip

Recommended Posts

I still marvel that I frequently see Bald Eagles around our beautiful state of Arizona. I've lived in Arizona since 1979 and the sightings for me were zero back then, but over the years the eagles are making a comeback and are on their way to being a success story. The two biggest things we can do is take all fishing string out with you and leave no lead weights behind. When my older kids were little we played a game to see who could collect the most fishing string to take out with us. It worked well :)

Anyone know what kind of flower this is? It only grows right at the waters edge and only in limited areas.

I can only imagine what my pictures could look like if I used a tripod and was on firm ground. These were from a canoe with a 6-year-old wiggling and a dog bouncing around. Not too shabby considering :)

Very nice pics. You caught some good poses. I think the flower is Owl Clover. I too moved here in '79, from Indiana.

I'm totally with you guys. God Bless the USA!

PS - The photo spot must remain top secret per my mother's wishes...lol I'll make a long story short, but as a child she grew up in a children's home in New York. One special treat she received was to go to a camp where she saw a Bald Eagle while she was on a canoe (pretty much the same as what just happened to me). I have heard this story for as long as I can remember and how meaningful it was to her. She asked me this morning "Christina, please don't tell anyone where you saw the eagle. They must remain protected." So I will honor her wishes.

Well said :D

Beautiful pictures. Was that the only catch of the day?

No sir, we ate the flat head last night for dinner. Yummy :) I liked it a lot more than my daughter, but she remains in good standing as a member of the "two-bite club."

Wife and I were at willow springs lake trolling around when we saw 1 sitting on a branch cackling up a storm. Then we heard and saw the mate circling around over head. We watched with such awe as it was so graceful in flight. All of a sudden he swooped down within 20 ft of our boat, extended his talons and scooped up a 2 pound trout and flew off to his mate. They were cackling at each other for a few minutes then flew off. We were so amazed at what just happened and then realized...what idiots we were for not grabbing our camera. Either way we still have the pics in our head I guess. Great photos. TY for sharing

that looks like an awesome trip/ Ive seen eagles from my kayak on the salt and on canyon lake. (Woods canyon has a G&F viewing of the nest every year). Ive drifted and watched the eagles perched and hunting from my floating kayak.

Something that may never happen, but on my bucket list is too kayak/float down the Verde. Doable from November to April. 60 miles (from the edge of Camp Verde-or 70 if you include CV). only one access point about Childes area, 18 miles down stream. and then next point of contact would be bartlet lake.
