azhuntnut Report post Posted April 26, 2007 This is a 100 grain stinger four blade with the bleeder shot out of a PSEEEEEEEEEEEEE stl. The arrow is a carbon express terminator select and weighs 480 grains including the broadhead. The arrow was traveling at 255 fps. That puts my arrow at about 70lbs of kinetic energy. I wanted to test it and see just how strong these heads were just for fun. You can see the thickness of the metal in the pic. I figured the head would explode, but I wanted to see the durability of the main blade. I don't think I will have any problem splitting bone on any elk this season. I used a stinger on my last bull and had great results. This blade was as dull as a butter knife before I shot it because of a miss last year at one of my targets. It actually went through my fence and into a tire. David
BASS Report post Posted April 26, 2007 That is pretty impressive. A lot more than last years tire test.
azhuntnut Report post Posted April 26, 2007 That tire just missed making pope and young . I have a cow hip bone I am going to try tomorrow and see how it does on that. I am going to use the same broadhead I shot my bull with. David
dave Report post Posted April 27, 2007 Has anyone tryed the same test with a Wac'em? I have seen them shoot through aluminum fry pans but not into 14 gauge steel.
Cowboy Report post Posted April 27, 2007 Try using a Snuffer. I have used them for over 25 years on everything from small game to elk with out ANY failures. Granted I shoot a recurve that shoots about 200fps.
tjhunt2 Report post Posted April 27, 2007 Has anyone tryed the same test with a Wac'em? I have seen them shoot through aluminum fry pans but not into 14 gauge steel. I just went to carbon the last 2 years because I had to drop down to 58lbs from 72lbs cuss of my bum shoulder. My 05 cow was a pass thru at 15rds but my 06 bull was broadside the same distance and it for some reason hit a rib, reflexed up into the far side of the spine. I was shooting from a ground blind. They fly really well but I have some concern. I'm certainly no expert but I hear nothing but good stuff from George at Archery Headquarters.
azhuntnut Report post Posted April 27, 2007 I thought I would add to this test, so I had a hip bone from a cow and set it up in front of my Mckensie javelina. I shot it from the same distance, using the same arrow. The blade was a little sharp, but nothing I would use for hunting. It penetrated through the bone and then out of my javelina by about five inches. I then tried shooting it at a shovel, but hit it at the bend in the middle of the head and it caused it to skip off instead of penetrating. This destroyed the head and my arrow. COOSEFAN Report post Posted April 28, 2007 Azhunt.......YOU ARE A NUT! It sounds to me like your little tests are starting to get dangerous! Shooting at a shovel I'm actually more interested to seeing what else you shoot at, than how the broadhead performs! seriously, good test though.....thanks for the info......but stop shooting at shovels.....you'll shoot yer eye out! AzPacknHorns Report post Posted April 28, 2007 Thats impressive penetration!!! I have a few buddies who shoot that broadhead and swear by them I might have to try them out for myself, but for now I shoot the Montec. One thing I noticed is the blade in the first 3 pics is different than the blade in the last pic. (just wondering.)
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted April 28, 2007 how did the blade get stuck in the steel but there is no sign of penetration from the tip? and agreed with what AzPacknHorns says
sgha Report post Posted April 28, 2007 The blade in the last pic is the same, it just looks like it lost the thin bars on the side and back while trying to remove it from the steel. That's my guess at least!
azhuntnut Report post Posted April 29, 2007 Thats impressive penetration!!! I have a few buddies who shoot that broadhead and swear by them I might have to try them out for myself, but for now I shoot the Montec. One thing I noticed is the blade in the first 3 pics is different than the blade in the last pic. (just wondering.) It is the same broadhead, but the first broadhead came apart on impact from the steel. It was like going through butta when I shot it into the cow bone. No more testing Jimmy, unless I get bored this week . David
