capoeirajosh Report post Posted March 7, 2015 The wife and I are looking to do our first backpacking trip! Just looking to do a hike in, spend the night and hike out deal. Any suggestions on trails? We are looking to go middle of this month. Preferably, not up in the high country for temp reasons. Let's hear it!
mattys281 Report post Posted March 7, 2015 Barnhart trail in the mazatzal is nice. Mother of a hike in because its all uphill, but real nice coming back down. Theres a nice camping spot under a big umbrella-ish juniper right where the Barnhart meets the mazatzal divide trail, a little ways down the divide trail. Its pretty high up there, it'll be cool, but not Falstaff cool. I think its about 8 miles to the intersection.
bvanetten Report post Posted March 7, 2015 Reavis Ranch in the Superstitions is always nice. 6.5 miles from the south side. There's always water in the creek. Or for a shorter and a bit more easy of a hike you could go to Rogers Canyon Cliff Dwellings, 4 miles in. Also in the Superstitions.

Thats also a great hike for an overnighter, better than Barnhart.

MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted March 7, 2015 Yep, bell trail. I've muled it on foot and hoof. Limited room for tents but doable.

Camofreak Report post Posted March 7, 2015 There's one that starts at Sheeps bridge, and goes into the mazatals, pretty easy hike and beautiful, can really get In there, and can camp on the verde if you want.
mpriest Report post Posted March 8, 2015 Ryder canyon in Grand Canyon would be good for a one night trip. You will need a permit from the park but it has pretty good fishing at the end!

Super pumped! Has anyone had any issues with bears back there?? I saw that there is an apple orchard back there and the first thing I thought of was bears, hahaha. Looks like a beautiful hike with some awesome looking camp spots.
