h1000 w/ 168 vld

Recommended Posts

Sounds like we are in for a rainy 3 or 4 days, so I thought I would start loading again.

I never really came up with any thing great in the fall, so im going to give it a shot with h1000 and 168gr vld hunting. Im thinking of starting 5 at 68.5 gr and working the last 5 up to 70 gr., and of course 69 and 69.5 in between. Anyone have a secret recipe ?

I have shot that load for some time. 69.5g of H1000 and 168's and it shoots awesome, just under 3,000 fps.

For hunting I switched 2 years ago to Ramshot Magnum, 70gr and the Nosler 168gr HVLD's. I get the same speed, accuracy, and it is a ball powder that meters/measures easier than anything I have tried. It is also as stable or more when it comes to temperature changes.

In the last two years, 4 coues, 2 mulies, and a bear, not a bad record so far same rifle, same load.

I have been wanting to try the 168's, but haven't seen any at sportsmans for a while. I shoot the 180 vld with 68gr of h1000 .005 off in a 7RM and they shoot great, I'm working with the 168 nosler LRAB right now and 70gr is giving me .6 moa. I do wish I would have picked up the 168 Bergers instead. You should be able to find a sweet spot with h1000. Good luck and have fun!

From my experience so far I like the LRAB as much or better and wished they had them in the 180's as well. From a ballistics standpoint they seem to be almost identical on my drop charts, the LRAB show a little better but I did switch powder after the first batch I made with H1000.

I gave it a shot today , was hoping for better. I think the imr 7828 won unless its just my shimmy-shimmy shakes . All 5 shot groups .post-8438-0-07230400-1425427018_thumb.jpgpost-8438-0-40712600-1425427088_thumb.jpg
