no worries Report post Posted February 21, 2015 Ok, I take 3 kids hunting in 36A today. We spot a herd at 120 yards out and one kid hits a pig dead on and it drops right there. We walk up and it's dead but there are 2 piglets suckling on her. We never saw the young ones , they are maybe 3 inches tall and 8 inches long. The herd scatters and runs over multiple ridges. Shouldn't they be giving birth in the spring??
elkaholic Report post Posted February 21, 2015 javelina breed year round - little piglets "REDS" are very common during the spring hunts - one can only hope another female has reds - or I doubt they will survive long kinda a bummer but that is a legal animal to shoot
naturegirl Report post Posted February 21, 2015 year round and with all the rain it's a good year for it! I've passed on many shots because of javi babies. They are hard to see so you gotta look very close!
218buck Report post Posted February 21, 2015 That's unfortunate but any one that's hunted javelina a lot has probably had a similar situation we always pass on the ones we see with reds I think its the right thing to do. Congrats to your kid
no worries Report post Posted February 21, 2015 Thx for the info. We would have passes as well if they had been visible.
