Watch your boots!! Wear your chaps.......

Recommended Posts

Rattlers are out already. Was out in 37B over the weekend and had 2 of them real close to camp. They're hungry and searching for love. The 5 footer I about stepped on was raised up and ready to strike well before the buzz alarm went off.

Be careful!

Yikes! Thanks for the reminder. That will give me something to think about as I walk to my javalina glassing spot in the dark Friday morning.

Ahh thanks for the heads up! I have only walked up on one rattler and it was small, about 12 inches in length. I hope to never find myself about to step on one!

Those small ones are the ones I worry about the most. Man I hate snakes!

My bro hopped up on a boulder while taking pics of a javelina we killed yesterday and there was a 2' dback curled up on the rock a foot away. Didn't rattle at all. He was moving pretty slow as it was still cool. Tried to see if he would rattle and he didnt. He ended up without a head for it.

I have stepped on many rattlesnakes and have never been bitten. There is a really good study done by a park biologist who worked in the White tanks using a prosthetic leg. He would use it to "step" on the rattlesnakes and the almost never bite. Any good pair of boots would protect you in the highly unlikely event of that happening.

Why would you kill it for not rattling?

Because there are to many of them and not enough gopher snakes ;)

Just trying to even it out.

If you see a rattler in the sticks, don't be alarmed. Pick it right up as he only wants to play with you.
