fredb Report post Posted February 17, 2015 I just cleared the schedule for this upcoming weekend and a good bit of next week. This is the time of year where I just refuse to let my hunting season end, so I've been doing some research on how to extend it. I'm coming down from Denver with my bow (maybe my .45 as backup) and want to put some pigs down. Anyone hunt this area? Would you recommend it or just keep on going to the Pecos River? Looks like lots of public land in the Capitans so I figured that would be a good place to start looking. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks fellas! (and I'm sure a few ladies as well)
mattys281 Report post Posted February 18, 2015 Hogs or no hogs you get a few days in the mountains so you already won. Good luck amigo and safe travel!
fredb Report post Posted February 18, 2015 Ha! You said it Matty. The hogs are just a bonus at this point. I'll write something up on my success or lack there of when I get back.
muleskinner Report post Posted February 18, 2015 The area where the most hogs are is pretty much surrounded by private land. Some big ranches on the north side of the Capitans and that is where the biggest concentration of hogs seems to be. There is a good bit of forest service and some blm land in the higher elevations of the mountains. Have some friends that quit running there bear and lion hounds in that area due to the hog population. By the way, I live 15 minutes from Capitan.
