I have a Vortex Viper HS 4-16x50 with the BDC reticle. It was on my .250 Ackley, and I made a shot on a 1326 yard coyote with it last January. Plenty of scope for 1000+, but on 4X, I can hit bunnies running at 30 yards too.

I have a Vortex Viper HS 4-16x50 with the BDC reticle I am just about to post up in the classifieds for $450. It was on my .250 Ackley, and I made a shot on a 1326 yard coyote with it last January. Plenty of scope for 1000+, but on 4X, I can hit bunnies running at 30 yards too.

Nice! Not quite ready yet, or else I would jump on this!

Being able to take closer shots was one of my concerns of getting a higher magnification scope. Thinking of having 6 power be the lowest power I have makes me wonder if I should go with a 4 instead. I also might just be thinking too much about it, hahaha. 6 might not be that bad at all.

Upgrade your Nikon to a Nikon Prostaff 5 with BDC I have this scope on my Tikka .270 and love it. I have the same Buckmaster as you on a Ruger 7mmag and have no qualms but this Prostaff 5 with side focus in 3.5x14x40 is sweet.

My first choice is and will be leupold vx2 or vx3. I have recently purchased a weaver grand slam 3-10 and I am impressed with it hoghntr found it on ebay for me for less than $200 and i also looked at the new Redfield and was impressed with it as well. I might be one of the few that just haven't loved vortex scopes but i wouldn't buy one. I would say keep 4x or 4.5x the lowest. Natchez Shooters Supply has good prices on some scopes

some scopes i use are the vortec 6.5-20x44 paid 329; 6-24x40 bushnell elite 325. i have a couple 6.5-20x40 leup i paid 500 and 525 for. shop. how does the rifle shoot??

The rifle shoots great. $329 for the vortex?! If you dont mind me asking, where did you purchase them? That is a heck of a deal.

cameraland specials. is your 700 a sporter or a remington long range? the vortex is a 30 mm tube quite big for a sporter. i like the 6-24 bushnell elite better for a sporter. shopping yesterday both scopes new were around 450.,....edited

I could not agree more with the post above. 300 mm scope tube would be a little big for a sporter model. A 30 mm tube would be fine though in my opinion.

Just think of the light gathering capability of 300mm tube though! You could spot for deer at midnight!

I have a Burris Fullfield II 4.5 - 14 x 44 with BDC reticle on my Rem 700 .270. I got it from a ebay store about 5 years ago. Retail was around $400...I got it for $260. It has been a great scope for my capabilities, which is out to 400 yards. The glass is very bright and clear. I keep thinking of upgrading, but it keeps performing, so I'm in no hurry. Burris has a newer model that replaced the Fullfield, I think around $400.

what load does your 30-06 like??

From what I have seen, it groups 180's the best. Then again, I don't shoot a whole lot. I have had the rifle for 2 years and take it out a few times before season and maybe a time or two through the off season. Other loads that I have put through it are 125's and 150's.
