New AZ arch deer dates!

Recommended Posts

Fire off an email, make a phone call and make time to attend any commision meeting you can, we need to get it back!!!!

Younghunter, Gabescoues and anyone else who has drawn a tag this year, especially first timers, I feel for you boys. It's bad and only getting worse, every year its one more little thing and the silent majority gets on the hunting forums for a good old fashioned bitch session. But last I checked preaching to the choir isn't all that effective..... <_<

The AZGFD hates me I promise you that and I'm fairly certain Ordway screens his calls for fear I may be on the line. I've come to the realization that there is a very good possibility that I've been black balled from the draw system and that's fine but, if I'm going down, I'm going down with a hand full of nuts and fist full of teeth. All of you better have the same attitude or sooner rather than later we'll all be spending the weekends on the couch watching Jackie the "Buckmaster's" gay butt sitting in a tree on some private deer farm and day dreaming about the good ol days when bow hunting elk in Nov. with 10, 000 of our closest friends was something we wished we could still do.......

AAAAAHHHHHH......I'm Freaking PISSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's time to rooster up Kats and Dolls, this snow ball is just about to big to stop.

Absolute power is absolute corruption. They have to answer to no one. They don't give a dang how many letters or petitions you send, they ignore every single one of them, and do what they want. The Arizona Game and Fish Dept. are full to the brim with tree huggin environmentalists. You all think that electing your commisioners is a bad thing, well it isn't any worse than what is going on right now. The only way you will have a say in what happens is when the commisioners are elected from each county. That will never happen so get ready for the end. I really don't know how to stop it. I have sent letters and e-mail till I am blue in the face. I hope that I am wrong, but until we can find a way to defeat the AZGFD we are in a world of hurt in Arizona. I have attended commision meetings and it isn't any better. If they don't like the way the discussions are going they just end the meeting. I saw it for a fact in Pinetop. There wasn't a single person in favor of changing the whitetail structure and the people were getting vocal. Well that was the end of that meeting. And as you can see it didn't matter how many people showed up to voice their oppinion. The power and money they have is to the point of no return. I sure wish someone would come up with a real answer. The normal channels of checks and balance does not work for this branch of Government. They have no one to fear. "When people fear their Government it's called communism, when the Government fears it's people it's called democracy".

I sure hope some archery elk hunter doesn't screw up my archery deer hunt. Everyone knows the odds of harvesting an archery elk during the rut are much better than harvesting an archery deer in September...

Everyone blowing on their bugles will probably screw up my chances at an archery turkey also! :D

Seriously, even though I don't have an archery elk tag this year, it doesn't make much sense to me to have the seasons overlap. I honestly would rather not have the archery elk hunters out there while I'm after a buck with my bow. It's bad enough that opening weekend of archery deer season is Labor Day weekend...

I also wouldn't want to be taking the chance of hurting someone else's elk hunt. If these dates end up staying, and I'm not helping someone out with an archery elk hunt, I'll probably head to Kaibab to deal with that circus instead of chasing deer in a unit with an elk hunt going on...

this would be a good bonus if the season closed except to those who had a elk tag. and of course you would get the regular 2 weeks before for everyone else. But I know that is not going to happen. otherwise what a joke. WTF

I hope some of you guys that have not been to Commission meetings will go and speak you mind.

I have burned too many bridges with this Commission to have a positive impact.

If you guys don't show up, they will have their way.

Study the recommendations and make a scientific heart felt argument for your position.

Here is one example of what I see in the recommendations that makes a lot of scientific sense, see if you can correlate all the data: "because the later dates during 2006 resulted in a higher than expected hunt success... the Department is recommending a 900 permit increase in permits".

Good luck guys.

I think I am going to throw up!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am all for archery deer hunting don't get me wrong. I do not see any problem with the hunts overlapping with the elk hunts as long as you are not allowed to hunt in any unit where an archery elk hunt is in progress unless you hold a valid tag for elk in that unit. The hunt dates have always been fine when they did not overlap before, the deer are not in rut in September last time I checked so how does this help anybody?????????

Actually due to the waning monsoon season I feel that a later archery deer hunt actually benefit the waterhole hunting due to the lower amount of rain. Of coarse G+F could get creative and keep the current archery season in the southern units and move the deer season back a week in elk units so they don't overlap. I think these ideas of limiting deer hunting to those with elk tags only is really not fair to us losers who didn't draw an elk tag. I don't agree in improving someone elses hunt by limiting the hunts of others is fair.

Call me crazy, but do you honestly think there are so many archery deer hunters out in the field that they are going to seriously impact those elk hunters whose hunt they will overlap?

This idea is what it should of said if they wanted to change it!!!!!!! Took the words right out of my mouth "HUNTMUP"!

I think this would have been fine with everyone. Would you guys agree?

The G$F is still stuck on gitting more hunters in the field by reducing hunter success <_<

Remember the tricky G$F servey everyone took about "Would you like more hunting oppertunity"? To them that =$$$! They knew what they wanted to do and they came up with that nicely worded servey to trick everyone into giving them the ammo they needed to get more people in the field. Had the servey been clear about its intentions and said something like "Would you like more hunting oppertunities if it ment screwing up hunts by lowering hunter success so we could add more hunters in the field?" then they would have had different results. But they didn't want diferent results did they <_<

In the old days we had what was called the " Fruit salad", if you had an archery elk tag you could also hunt deer, bear, turkey and squirrel at the same time. BUT ONLY IF YOU POSSESED AN ARCHERY ELK TAG. I feel that this was a good thing offered by the G&F. Once something is taken away by the commission it's pretty much gone forever. Look what happened to the multiple southern unit whitetail hunts. It has always bothered me that they even ran archery cow tags at the same time as the archery bull hunts. Look what they did to the junior deer hunts? Overlapping them with the two week whitetail hunts.

Bad decision, I seriously doubt we will ever see things change unless sthe state recieves the rainfall that we saw in the early 1980's and the mule deer population comes back.

WOW bobbyo ...... DotShot....

Cmon guys sounds like somebody didn't get an Elk tag this year........................

Are you serious???? How is overlapping the hunt going to improve the quality of the deer hunt????? The wanning monsoon

You guys are missing the whole point. The deer season has always been fine before, why the changes now? The response to this is to band together and do the right thing for everyone, and as far as deer hunters in the woods during the elk hunt.... Maybe not a big deal in say... unit 36B.. I've lived in Arizona my whole life and been an archery hunter for many, many years.. Have you ever hunted unit 7 during the arhery deer hunt??? It is a circus not to mention any unit surrounding the Flagstaff and Payson areas... We are talking a 7 day overlap during the best time to hunt.

Maybe your views would be different if you drew a tag

Seems like I usually see more elk during deer season & more deer during elk season... Maybe w/ the overlap I'll finally be able to fling an arrow at something since they'll both be legal?! Sounds like fun to me, to have a combo hunt opportunity.

I saw so few people (as in none at all) during the last two years of deer hunting that I'm kind of thinking the elk hunters are more likely to impact the deer hunters than vice versa, at least in my area. Hope it works out for the rest of you.

Huntmup,

1. Yes I am bitter about not drawing an Elk Tag. I guess you have.(You don't have to be so cocky about it.) :P

2. We both agree that G+F screwed up by having overlapping hunts.

3. Your solution is to limit the hunting opportunities for us losers that did not draw a tag by banning us from elk units, just because we didn't draw a tag. My solution(read my post) is to move the archery hunt back so there is no overlap in elk units.

4. If we are to band together we should do it for the benefit of everyone and not just for those lucky few(5%) that got an Elk tag.

Maybe your views would be different if you didn't draw a tag?

Bob

PS good luck on your ELK hunt.

The biggest problem with the overlapping hunts is that there are quite a few unethical hunters out there, and several people would be hunting on one tag. One guy will have a tag and three or four of his buddies could have bows in the field helping him fill the tag. There is no reason I can think of to make this change, and their are several reasons not to. But if past practices continue, it usually doesn't matter what we think. I will be at the April meeting and I am sure it will follow the same lines as usual. "We will take all of your comments into consideration". (And then we will do as we damned well please).

Actually I did get a tag.. First elk tag in seven years (I put in archery only and not in units 8,9,10 or any of the better units in the White Mountains)..

I do not want to decrease anyones opportunity to hunt, lord knows we have enough problems getting out as is but overlapping the elk/deer hunts is not the answer.

We both agreed on moving the dates back too (read my posts).

I do not want anyone to suffer due to conflict of seasons and I would have had the same feelings last year and the year before and so on when I did not get a tag. I would still stand up and fight for what is right and fair for everyone. The vast majority of us who put in for elk year after year usually end up without a tag. I have only had 3 tags for elk counting this year since 1986... I spent the last seven days of archery deer last year hunting around Flagstaff and I pride myself on trying to be as ethical and respectful of others hunts as possible and the last thing I would want would be to hurt your chances of harvesting an elk if you had a tag.... And believe me there is going to be problems... You will also have to contend with all the out of state hunters that will be chasing deer as well. I watched two guys from California last year tear across a meadow with a lifted powerstroke trying to chase the deer I was stalking towards his buddies

There is a solution to the problem, change the dates.......

No sour feelings bobbyo ;)

I like this frame of thought. Must be the water from down there.
