111 Report post Posted April 9, 2007 I posted some photos below of elk I took video of. Also you can compare video of a bull from two different years. I would have posted this a couple years ago but never could get video on here, so I just took pics off the video today. Hope you like the pics....Also these pics are elk from unit 1,27,4,5,6, or 8, you can flip a coin so it doesn't overcrowd these units....I'm curious as to what you guys think either of these bulls would have scored....And do you think Bull#1 and Bull#3 are the same? Bull#1: This was a 6X7 bull from 2004. I scouted this bull out for my hunt, but never harvested him. Bull#1: Same bull as above, with a different angle. 2004 Bull#1: Same bull again at water. 2004 Bull#2: This bull I had a 23 yard shot at opening day of the 2004 hunt but passed. The only reason this one got passed on was because the bull in the photo above was in the same area. I did decide when he started to leave that I wanted to take him, but by then I had wasted too much time and he slipped away through the trees. Bull#2: Bull again with a little better pic of the points. Bull#3 from 2005 which I believe is the same bull as Bull#1 from the year before. I think because Bull#3 was harvested about a mile away from where the video was of Bull#1, same point numbers on both sides, and a narrow width. What are your thoughts, same bull or a different bull? Bull#3 front view.
Lance Report post Posted April 9, 2007 Looks like the same bull to me. Did you put a tape to him? Would like to see a side vew on bull #2. Lance
jgabler Report post Posted April 9, 2007 It does look like the same bull to me as well. You must have a lot of patience to not take the shot on bull #2 because I would not have thought twice about it even though I would have known about bull #1.
shortpants Report post Posted April 9, 2007 Could be but the G-5 on the right side as well as the G-4 on the right make me think maybe not?
111 Report post Posted April 9, 2007 Here's a side view of Bull#2. Any guess to what he would have scored? I'll never know but would like to get your opinion. Also if you have an idea on the score bull#1 also. I don't know the score on him either but if your a good judge of elk it would be great to give it a try. Bull#3 I know the score on. You can guess on him also to test your skills. If you need more photos of width let me know.
azcouesandelk Report post Posted April 9, 2007 I am saying that there is about a 90% chance of them being the same As for the score the first bull I come up with 345 to 350 and the second bull I come up with 350 to 355. Both are great animals and thanks for sharing the pics.
Lance Report post Posted April 10, 2007 It's hard to tell without seeing them walking around in person, but guessing on a picture is still fun! Bull #1 has awesome tops and looks 370ish but the fronts are short and that can be deceiving. Bull #2 might go 320ish if he is lucky. Bull #2 has lots of carater that makes him look bigger! How did I do!
COOSEFAN Report post Posted April 10, 2007 I would say the two bulls are the same....as for score...that is tuff going off video pics because the TV can stretch/distort the image. I would say just by appearance only.....Bull #2 would push 340"...because of the beam length and width. On Bull #3.....he's narrow and short down low, but dang...it's got awesome tops and extra bone as well......I will guess, because of the give-n-take.......370" maybe a tad bigger......it's hard for me to judge when they are'nt attached to the animal though ........I'd kill any one in a heartbeat with a bow! Great bulls! JIM>
Coues 'n' Sheep Report post Posted April 10, 2007 Man.... that is tuff... Bet you've stretched your leg kickin' yourself in the arss.... for passin' up that bull! Same genetics in there for sure.... I agree that 1 & 3 are the same and I'm at about 360"-370" on him and I think that the #2 bull is about 350"-355"+....unless the pics are way deceiving, you may have really messed up.... Bull #2 is wider, & longer on the bottom... the only thing that makes #1-3 better is that extra point....IMO...... It is still IMPOSSIBLE to tell from pictures..... just my gut talkin'.... 111 Report post Posted April 10, 2007 On Bull #3.....he's narrow and short down low, but dang...it's got awesome tops and extra bone as well......I will guess, because of the give-n-take.......370" maybe a tad bigger......it's hard for me to judge when they are'nt attached to the animal though Coosefan, here's some pics of Bull#3 where they are attached to the animal. Your estimates are great, but it's probably a better pic being attached to an animal. Bull#3 you guys are close but nobody's hit the nail on the head yet. Glad to see you guys are guessing on these three bulls. The pics below may help estimate Bull#3.

BUT he is looking away, and they always look bigger facing away, but...now I would say he's 379 3/8"

azcouesandelk Report post Posted April 10, 2007 I agree with that new picture I change the score from 345ish to 370 class. I did not realize the tine length he had before. Great pics thanks for sharing
bowhunter4life Report post Posted April 10, 2007 remember that bull christian. he's what is on your archery list this year, 7w has those caliber bulls.
COOSEFAN Report post Posted April 10, 2007 The bull that got whacked is a 390 class gross bull. Sure looks like the same bull from 04.. PIG 390".......I can see it....but the width and fronts just keep makin' me think less...... ALRIGHT.... last and final guess ( unless 300wsm is stating somethin' he knows for sure?) I would say.....385 3/8".....wait....no.....382 2/8"......wait.....well.........OK....386 7/8"....yeah I'll stick with 386"
