gotcoues Report post Posted January 30, 2015 First off, let me say thank you in advance for any opinions given. I am done applying for rifle antelope in Arizona, after 15 years, I have officially given up and I'm throwing in the towel. I will be applying with a friend for archery antelope for the first time. According to the odds calculator, we are guaranteed tags in Unit 1, 3a, 3b, 4b, 6b, 10 and 11m. Also guaranteed tags for the second hunt in Units 19a and 21. My question is more related to a "quality", fun experience. I'm not looking for the top producing unit as far as size, but rather a unit with mature animals and good access, and perhaps not so many hunters. I would like to avoid problems in the field over waterholes and such if I choose to hunt water. Any opinions on a unit to cash in with 15 bonus points? There are quite a few units that look like they would be a guarantee, but I would like to have a chance at a mature goat and it not be a bunch of psychos running around like...... say early archery elk unit 9 type atmosphere.... I haven't really done my research on antelope units because they are so hard to draw.
Guest 300ultramag. Report post Posted January 30, 2015 Does your friend have 15 points as well? You might want to go solo and have your friend tag along if he doesn't have 15. You can have 10 And still not draw the one your after.
Guest 300ultramag. Report post Posted January 30, 2015 What's your location also? Scouting is the best part of an antelope hunt in my opinion. Gets expensive fast but when you find the lope your after its like Christmas
gotcoues Report post Posted January 30, 2015 I have 14, he has 15. We are located in Tucson. Probably head out a few days and scour the unit. We will take the majority of the hunt off, most likely the entire hunt. I'm not looking looking for a monster goat, just would like to have an enjoyable hunt and be in a unit with plenty of mature goats.

HuntHarder Report post Posted January 30, 2015 I would do 19a. Lots of great bucks that will be in and around 80"s. Tons of opportunity as well. Having said that, with the reduced # in tags this year, I would not say you are a lock for the 2nd hunt. More than likely, you will see a 1-2 point bonus point jump this year. 1/3 less tags than last year.
ibowhuntaz Report post Posted January 30, 2015 Hi Justin havent spoke to you since August, my thoughts would be Unit 10 if you have plenty of time for scouting and the traveling time it will take you from Tucson. I would have said 19a last year but not so sure about this year. Tags are down because 19a got hammered by the archers and gun hunters. There were a lot of huge bucks taken last year, still have plenty there but possibly a little tougher to find that 85+. also a harder draw. Ron

shanehamblin Report post Posted January 31, 2015 Don't really care to kill an antelope with a rifle. I'll always apply archery. May draw 3 or 4 in my lifetime maybe more.

If you don't mind sitting a drinker 19a would be a good choice, all the units you listed have good bucks pick one that's the easiet for you to go scout, to me sitting water is really boring but most archery bucks are harvested this way some of the units you posted are really good for stil hunting just depends on your style of hunting. rageinthesage Report post Posted February 4, 2015 After you hunt antelope with a bow for the first time and find out how much fun it is you will be regretting putting in for rifle all those years. I've had two tags in eight years and by far some of the best hunts I've been on. Can't go wrong with any of the units you listed, good luck.
