Here it is all cleaned up. I only kept the skull cap because the rest of the head was mangled. I assume it was a lion kill becasue of all the damage. I didn't realize it when I found it but I have a shed from this deer from two years ago. That's the first time I found the head of a deer that I had a shed from. Pretty cool.

nice find - to bad though, that would have been a really nice buck in another year or two.

what do you use to get the skull cap so brite white and shiny? I have used peroxide on all of my euros and skull caps but it never comes out that white and shiny.

thanks. chris.

I have used sal soda (sodium carbonate) with success and also use peroxide as well.

What do you use SunDevil?

Second Shot,

You may want to be careful picking up heads that still have hair on them. There are legal issues related to this. It's not all that cut and dry, but I think you could get cited for something like that. You may want to call the local game warden and let them know about it and find out their interpretation of the rules.

here is an old thread where this was discussed:

Thats awesome!! I shot a 92" 3x3 down in 36B one year and while I was crossing the canyon to find him, I found shed of him as well. It was no more than 100yds from where I killed him.

Sundevil-I cheated on this head and painted it. I usually use peroxide but last time I did it absorbed into the bases of the antlers and bleached them too.

Amanda-thanks for the heads up. I called G&F and sure enough it is illegal.

Well I'm working with MCSO so I'm going to need to come over and remove that set of antlers from your possesion sometime today. ;) They should look great hanging on my wall instead!

Good find, and very cool that you have a shed from the same deer. :)

So did you have to give it up??? Just don't think that is fair, either.....
