Have you ever messed up?

Recommended Posts

Mine is still to painful to put into writing. Not sure that will ever change.

If this little buck today was the big one I've been after, I just would have walked out into the wilderness and never came back

that's how I've always wanted to leave this world. But not so soon.

Every hunting story I have, including the successful trips include the words... "this is where I totally F'd it up..."

My last two deer have been pretty near text book. The three before that and the dozen or so misses.... I cant describe the experiences in words that are fit for Amanda's site, so let me just say, "yeah, I've shanked it a couple times." ;)

I could definitely write a book on all the times I messed up. Just this year I shook so bad I could hardly pull my bow back on a huge bob cat and shot way over it at 15yrds. This is the second time I lost it over a bob cat at the same distance. Not only was I having trouble breathing I shook like a dog sh!tting a peach seed.

Had a nice coues buck who knows what he would of scored at 45 yards broadside and i pulled back and let the arrow fly only to have all heck break loose and realized i missed and my camel pack hose had made it into my bow string and i have no idea wear the arrow flew just heard it crashing thru the trees and the buck stood there looked at me and gave me a front shot and i rushed and missed. Not even sure if i used my pin for second shot cuz i was so flusterd

Like TJ said. I could write a book on my screw ups. I couldn't write a page on my successful hunts!

On a muzzle loader Elk hunt in NM I didn't fire a cap through the gun before loading up in the morning. 3 hours later almost back to camp a HUGE bull was trotting by. Pulled the trigger and it Fizzled!!!!!!!! I still feel like throwing up every time I think about it!

Last day of a mulie hunt years ago in 27, hunted all week with nothing, afternoon of the last day I was cresting a ridge on a gas line road in the jeep. At the top was a heard of around 30, 10 bucks in the group and standing 30 feet in front of me just dumb founded! I cut the engine and we stared at eacchother for a few minutes. Had the gun right next to me. I eased open the door and got out, they were statues at this point lol. Was able to get my gun out and get ready. Ethics f'd me! I just couldn't take the 10 yard shot on the road in the middle of no where where no one would ever know. Oh well. I started talking to them and watched their ears and tails like they were dogs! A few minutes later they ran faster than my 06 could follow.

I feel your pain! I did not squeeze trigger on a massive muley laying 100yards off rd this year cuz spotted him & backed up grabbed gun jumped out & stepped off road then had bag of stuff fall out of truck and when I looked atit I realized how bad I looked so I picked it up shut off truck closed doors and stepped off rd again.. YES DEER STILL LAYING THERE. with scope on his neck and safety off with finger on trigger for 2nd time now with me feeling more legal I decided 1 step to left for best shot angle... @&*&%$#@ bad choice cuz he also got up and went faster than my 243 wssm

Was 170-180ish. :( so I harvested a 23incher 10 min later. ;)

When it comes to archery hunting a better question to pose is "Have you ever NOT messed up?" I keep finding new ways to mess up. The wind has not been my friend the last couple times out.

Plenty just ask the wife :), as far as hunting not sure I know anyone, even the most seasoned hunters not make mistakes over the years. The good news is that's what makes us all better hunters.I think that's why we keep at it year after year.
