HuntHarder Report post Posted January 18, 2015 I have a Sig M400 Ar-15, that I love, but the trigger is terrible. I have tried all the methods of polishing, sanding and whatever else I can find online to make it better. It has gotten a little better, but not up to my standards. I am thinking of replacing it with a Timney 667. Does anyone have this trigger in their Ar? If so, what do you think of it? The timneys in my other rifles are great, so I expect this to be no different. Just figured I would get a few opinions before I drop 200$ on a new trigger. DUG Report post Posted January 18, 2015 Geissele makes some of the better AR triggers. They have different style triggers to match how you shoot. All in the 2 to 300$ range.
WampusCat Report post Posted January 18, 2015 +1 on the Geissele. They make some of the best triggers out there for different applications. If you like a 2-stage look at the "G2S" model. It is my favorite for price vs quality. Bought a few of them in the $165 price range. Their important surfaces are EDM finished and the springs are stout. HuntHarder Report post Posted January 18, 2015 I am fairly new to the AR platform. I have always shot a single stage trigger, and think I would want a single stage trigger on my AR. I will only use this gun for coyotes and plinking. What is the advantage to a 2 stage trigger. I believe my stock trigger is 2 stage, and I hate the creep. Do all 2 stage triggers have the creep? hence the 2 stage. I have never heard of geissele, but after doing a little online research, they look like great triggers. Tons of options. AverageJoe Report post Posted January 18, 2015 The timney is a great trigger as always. I have one in my ar...its a simple drop in trigger once the old one is removed. Not as crisp it seems as a normal timney for a remington but still very good.
WampusCat Report post Posted January 18, 2015 I wouldn't call it creep but imagine about a half pound take up before you hit the actual wall. I prefer the 2 stage for the mental prep stages it lets me go through. It may be a carry over from match shooting days but I like feeling the purchase I have on the trigger and taking up the slack. When I make contact with the "2nd stage" I can stay there and wait for the sights to settle on the target knowing any more movement rearward will release the hammer. When its time, I make the final movement. There should be zero creep after the 1 stage is taken up. Do not confuse a gritty or sloppy single stage for a 2-stage. Depending on the specific model of course but I bet your Sig 400 has a single stage. I would recommend hitting up a gun store and dry firing a few models that have a 2-stage before you commit. HuntHarder Report post Posted January 18, 2015 I think you are right Wampuscat, it is a single stage trigger. Now that I know that, I am confident it is the worst trigger I have ever pulled. My AK has a better trigger in it. Thanks for the advice, and I will go and try a few nicer 2 stage triggers before I purchase one.
AverageJoe Report post Posted January 18, 2015 Our Marine Corps m16's had a two stage trigger in them. They were very nice triggers and very precise.

AxisWorks LLC Report post Posted January 19, 2015 I used to be a Timney guy until Elftmann came out. Hands down the best AR-trigger I've ever used. The 3 gun is a dream. Also an AZ company. http://elftmanntactical.com
sjvcon Report post Posted January 19, 2015 All I know about Timney is they make a good trigger and are great folks to deal with when it comes to customer service. Broke one that was 20+ years old in a gun that I didn't even own when the trigger was installed. Guy says "if its ours, its ours..." and handed me a new one free. lancetkenyon Report post Posted January 20, 2015 I love Timneys, but my AR trigger is a CMC. Set at 3#, nd is a true drop in trigger unit. Easy. Works great, crisp, light, smooth.
