sherman Report post Posted January 13, 2015 So I use a 25-06 to hunt deer and the bullet I have been using is hornandy 117 gr sst. I have never had a problem with them. Some people I load for have I don't know if it was a bad shot or not. I only want to be able to shot to 500 yards so what is your opinion on the sst line of bullets. What is your favorite bullet and why. These are form the deer I took this year at 150 yards what have you found from the sst at longer distances. Thanks for the input
452b264 Report post Posted January 13, 2015 For the 25-06 I like the 120 gr. Partition, maybe the 115, or the 100 gr. TTSX Barnes bullets. The Barnes dont blood shot the meat even with a 300 WBY. and the internal destruction is impressive, they also penetrate very well. I have heard good things about the 25 cal. 110 Accubond but have only used the 150 gr. 30 cal. in my sons 3006, which works very well.
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted January 13, 2015 110 accubond or 100 ttsx, I've killed to 400 with the accubond, and to 575 with the ttsx with perfect results.
sherman Report post Posted January 13, 2015 My one question to you both is how would they work at ranges at let's say 40-100 yards
Havasuhunter Report post Posted January 13, 2015 SST in the 6.5 is deadly from 300-500 yards. A little explosive closer but everything I've shot with them died quickly.
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted January 13, 2015 The ttsx is amazing up close. I shot several accubonds into soaked phone books at 10 & 30 yards with a muzzle velocity of 3410, results were impressive. I'll try and share a picture.
AverageJoe Report post Posted January 13, 2015 Sst is one of the best bullets for one shot kills at ranges beyond 300 yds. If close up shots (under 100) are expected it is not the best choice. I have seen 3 elk drop in their tracks at 600 ish yds from a 7mag 162 sst, one at 300 yds that took a few steps and fell over, 2 antelope at 330 yds and 440 yds both dead right there. Great bullet with the quicket kills of any bullet i have used. I have used others with nowhere near as good of results, to include barnes tsx, nosler bt, and regular soft point bullets like corelokt etc.
STOMP442 Report post Posted January 13, 2015 I prefer the 115 berger. By far the best BC bullet available in 25 cal and excellent terminal performance.
452b264 Report post Posted January 13, 2015 My one question to you both is how would they work at ranges at let's say 40-100 yardsThe TTSX will punch through both shoulders of a large mule deer (300 lbs) with ease. They drop in their tracks when punched through the shoulders.
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted January 13, 2015 I prefer the 115 berger. By far the best BC bullet available in 25 cal and excellent terminal performance.Only used that bullet on one coues deer, but in my .257 115 VLD experience, that was NOT the case... Come to think of it, my experience with the 180 .284 Hybrid was horrible too.

metau Report post Posted January 13, 2015 I've seen great results from the 110 Accubond on deer. Closest shot was was about 25 yards, longest was just shy of 300. The close one was a steep uphill shot. He jumped when shot, the bullet lodged in the off side shoulder blade, flipped him over and he broke his neck. Only two of the others ran when shot, but longest going less than 50 yards before dropping.
