What if you encounter some BP agents in the mountain and they want to give you a phone number you can call if you see any illegal activity? What if you encounter a good friend from Coueswhitetail.com that you never met before and ask you for your phone number? How many times you have been hunting any game and some one on your hunting party forgot to sign in their hunting license or tag(s)? Etc, etc? Now I know you guys don't keep a record of your hunts right? Daily events of your hunt such as date, time you saw the deer, behavior, wind, temp, etc etc? And it is almost the truth. I dont think that there is an app for toilet paper. You dont need a pencil to write a note while driving, while hunting, while doing almost anything. One time, my cousin forgot to sign his elk tag (1999-the last time I had an elk tag) and we got stopped by G&F as we were just heading out for the morning. I find it much easier and faster to write the "old-fashioned" way not to mention I'm always trying to conserve my phone battery when out and about. In Illinois in certain areas they require signing in and in other areas they require hunters to register with them online notifying them that you will be hunting a certain area and then you also have to fill out a detailed piece of paper and keep it on your dash (they don't have quads there like they do here since there is place to ride them). After the hunt, you are required to turn the paper in. We had to go back into town one day to get computer access to register with Illinois DNR and print the piece of paper required for the dash. kidso Report post Posted January 17, 2015 I carry a pen and a piece of paper for two reasons. One, for executing an emergency tracheotomy on anyone I find who is having trouble breathing. Two, for slipping in a small note into lockboxes with trail cameras that I find in areas that I too am hunting (hoping for a positive mutual exchange of information). So far, I am batting 1000 in terms of slipping notes into lockboxes for information exchange. However, if you happen to find a cadaver in the Sierra Anchas with a pen in his neck, you will know that I am not a perfect triage medic! 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
elkaholic Report post Posted January 17, 2015 looks like recyclable metal to me - is that kinda like littering or leaving an item unattended . just put a trail camera on it and you will have very forest ranger and warden stopping to remove it! sign in can be a good thing( when needed ) but if they are not even close to having it maintained or monitored - another waste of time and money on a program that is lost or forgotten and really not that important anymore. my trusty swiss army knife - I always have a pen -scissors - tweesers -watch etc all in one as for paper - always got a pocket full of napkins which have all kinds of uses 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
