Couestracker Report post Posted January 8, 2015 Great buck and sounds like an awesome adventure. So what about the thing on its neck? Did you ever picture it out? There's two pictures in the post that shows it. You can zoom in on it. We all eyeballed it in the field and couldn’t make sense out of it. The wound itself looks like it got gored by a antler in a fight, but it's real small, so it could have been from snagging a sharp partof a tree or maybe barbed wire. We left whatever it is stuck on the cape. I'm going to let my taxidermist remove it and get his thoughts. Then I can analyze it better. I'll report on it later in a separate post. Couestracker Report post Posted January 8, 2015 Thanks everyone for the nice comments. A couple of things I realized I left out was that the first (and biggest) one I shot, and thought it was a boar at the time, turned out to be a sow. In fact all 3 were sows, but the first one was "well used" as her hair on top of her back by the rear end was gone as well as on the knees. Most of her teeth are gone as well. Wonder how many babies she produced over her life? Plus I always keep and clean the skulls. I have all skulls from ones I killed except the other two on this trip. Well, the one I had to finish off with my rifle was shot in the head and that one turned to dust. Anyway, my other point is the skull from the big sow is huge! I could tell is was big right after I killed it, but after I got home and compared it to my other ones, I bet it's nearly 30% bigger. I'm going to measure it and take a picture next to another one I have. I'll post that info is the javelina forum later.

Mocha1545 Report post Posted January 15, 2015 Thanks for sharing that great write up. Fortunately I saw after the pictures were posted. Beautiful country. That is a very nice buck! Not sure if I want to know what was growing out of the neck wound. Watched too many scifi movies I guess. Awesome job on the piggies. That is so much fun getting in the middle of them. Congrats on a great hunt!
