4Falls Report post Posted January 7, 2015 I have a vintage Remington model 721 that belonged to my dad. Originally it had a weaver k4 scope. When he could no longer see the crosshairs he replaced it with the cheapest POS Walmart scope he could find. I'd like to put this rifle back to work, but will be replacing the optic. Any recommendations for something that would not look too modern but still provide good clarity and functionality? Either fixed or variable.
CJ Long range Report post Posted January 7, 2015 I've had good luck with the vortex diamondback, 4-12. Good scope. I put one on my grandfathers 270 and it works great.
AZbowhntr Report post Posted January 7, 2015 How much do you want to spend? I have Vortex's on most of my rifles now and really like them. But it comes down to what you can spend.
lancetkenyon Report post Posted January 7, 2015 Since you did not state a cost cap, or intended usage other than a scope on a classic rifle: I will assume a gloss scope (as matte was not available back in the day) and fairly inexpensive. Weaver K6 Classic, Classic V Leupold VX-1, or VX-2 Bushnell Elite
AverageJoe Report post Posted January 7, 2015 +1 for leupold vx1 or vx2
sherman Report post Posted January 7, 2015 Weaver makes one that looks old school
AverageJoe Report post Posted January 7, 2015 I still have an old weaver 4x from the 60's that is remarkably clear on my grandads rem 721 30-06. With that fixed 4x the gun still shoots sub moa with nothing done to it and the old walnut stock. Just an amazing old 721
DUG Report post Posted January 7, 2015 The new Redfields would look good. Made by Leupold.
roninflag Report post Posted January 7, 2015 2.5-8, 3.5-10 or 3-9 leup. is it a 30-06 or 300 h and h? or?
rclouse79 Report post Posted January 7, 2015 I love my zeiss conquest with a rapid z reticle, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything from Vortex. I love my Kiababs and had a good experience with their customer service department.
STOMP442 Report post Posted January 7, 2015 Another vote for the leupold vxII or Redfield. You could always get on eBay and pick up an old Redfield accu trac that would fit with the old school very nicely.
Hoss50 Report post Posted January 7, 2015 I like my redfield revolution on 3x9x40 with BDC reticle. Nothing super special looks wise but shoots well on my Weatherby Vanguard. The price is very fair for a good clean modest rifle scope and the warranty is great.
1uglydude Report post Posted January 7, 2015 +1000 for the Redfield Revolution. It blows the Vortex at the same price point completely out of the water. I have them on all of my medium range rifles right now. Amazing clarity and eye relief for the price.
