mexican grey wolf talks

Recommended Posts

the mexican wolf is extinct. it does not exist on this earth anymore. what has been "introduced" (not re-introduced) are wolf/dog crosses. they never had any pure bred wolves to start with and that's a fact.

You don't really believe that do you? :o

There are STILL pure strains of the Mexican Grey Wolf in Mexico or at least was when the populations were assembled before the re-introduction and that is a fact. ;)

Here is some more goodies for thinkers. I believe there are some Mexican grey at the Desert museum, and I dont think they look much like the ones released.

ALso seen a spot the other day ( I dont remember where maybe National Geographic) concerning the wolves released in Yellowstone. They have now found a way to "tie" the reintro to the stability of native song birds. This is how they explained it. The wolves keep the ungulates "on thier toes" meaning they dotn stick around on stream banks and eat all the ground cover there cause they are worried about getting eaten by staying there to long. Which allows the grasses to flourish, which keeps down erosion, and allows stands of some native trees ( aspen) to grow to maturity. thus stabilizing the "very fragile" stream bank ecosystems. And allowing the song birds places to nest. etc etc.

I dont know about the rest of ya but I dont like that little red dot dancing around on my hunting license. Cause I can see the PETA folks on the other side.

mattys281,

that was actually a hypothetical situation about how seeing predators in the wild is great until they eat your dog. And no you cant throw rocks or anything at the wolves as they devour FIDO because that is considered harassment! You are not allowed to harass mexican grey mutts unless they are attacking your livestock. So all you can do is sit and eat your orville redenbacher and watch your precious family mutt get his innards made into outards. Now in the real world, at least with my pets, there would be a dead grey mutt.

I got that & was just returning sarcasm for sarcasm on the popcorn thing.

I don't know a think about how pure or mixed their blood line is, but the ones I saw were awesome looking animals. I still wouldn't trade an occasional wolf siting for good deer hunting, though. That first document that kevin posted stated right at the front that they expected those wolves to reduce the deer population in the Blue Range area by up to 10,000 animals. Can't believe AZG&F went along with that! Guess I'm too nieve & trusting in the gov.

I don't know what it's like in NM, but the signs posted around the Wolf Recovery Area here say that if one comes near your campsite, you're supposed to throw rocks, make noise, and do whatever you can to chase 'em away. Next time I'm there, I'll snap a picture of the sign.

mattys,

They must let you guys have more free reign over there, the NMGF proclamation states that we cant harass them unless they are attacking livestock and then spells out that domestic animals are not livestock.

Glad we are on the same page about the deer being more important than the wolves, you were scaring me. AG
