COOSEFAN Report post Posted March 31, 2007 Coosefan, I have seen tracks in rock like that on the san carlos. If I remember right it was like turkey tracks, and canid tracks and elk or cattle tracks. And some of the tracks clearly went underneath the upper rock layers, meaning they were made before the upper rock layer formed. I don't think they were that old given the tracks looked like modern animals, but I never figured out how they formed. Interesting stuff for sure. Amanda ANYWAYS..........back to the critter tracks. Amanda, how long does it take to form a rock layer, or several for that matter? That makes sense about them not being old enough to be in the Dino era, but what I was thinking, is that these tracks aren't far from where there actually are real dinosaur tracks....so I thought it would be possibly the same rock layer? These tracks ( at least one set ) are too big and different to be any type of critter that I know of. One thing about the tracks are they were all the same....no differences between the front pad and back pad, both looked like the front pads on a bear or raccoon but the back pads were the same size and shape, not longer like a bear or raccoon. I have always wanted to go back and check it out more closely, i was in the middle of elk hunting when I found those. Maybe one of these days!
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted March 31, 2007 I don't know how long it takes a rock layer like that to form. Anybody here a geologist? I think the rock that I found those tracks in was some kind of sandstone and it was fairly close to a river bed. I wish I had taken pics of the ones I saw. I took some measurements but I didn't have a digital camera at the time. I suppose I could always go back and find them again. Could your extra large bear track just be one that slipped in the mud so it looks huge? Amanda
COOSEFAN Report post Posted March 31, 2007 I understand what you are saying about the animal slipping creating a bigger track, but this track was the same throughout the length of the trail of tracks. The one thing that makes me sure it wasn't a bear is that the tracks are the same front and back...the pad wasn't elongated like a bear on the rear pads....it had a round pad like the front. I'm getting really anxious to go back and take some more pic's and investigate it more......very interesting stuff!
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted March 31, 2007 You might call someone at Dinosaur National Monument and ask questions about rock formation and the tracks you found. maybe a geologist or fossil specialist there can help. http://www.nps.gov/dino/ If you haven't ever gone to Dino. Natl Monument, it's well worth a trip! I took my nephew a few years ago and it was great! Amanda
TAM Report post Posted April 1, 2007 Just north of Kanab Utah there is a place called Moqui Cave. Kind of a tourist mesuem. They have all sorts of rocks, indian artifacts, and even what they claim are dinasour tracks. It's a neat place to stop with the kids if you're ever driving through Kanab. Kilimanjaro Report post Posted April 7, 2007 heres a pic for you guys.. One of my best friend's family has a ranch back in TX that is only about 4 miles from the Dinosaur Valley Sate Park near GlenRose, TX.. These tracks are literally everywhere over in that area of TX.. We found these down near the creek bed on his place a few years back while we were fishing down on the creek.. I think the dino was called a Theropod.. I've been to the park before when I was a kid, and they said it was like a mini T-Rex.. about 10-12ft tall.. there were THOUSANDS of tracks within the State park!! Theropods, duckbilled dinos, and a couple of others.. very cool to see in preson..

Kilimanjaro Report post Posted April 8, 2007 Cool pics, those do really look like dino tracks.... not "looks like" dino tracks, they ARE dino tracks!! here are a couple of more pics from the State park itself, which is about 4 miles from the ranch where the first pic was taken.. I think you'll be able to see these a tad bit more clearly!! here you can see where they walked down the creek.. these creek beds are solid rock with these prints embedded into them.. and here is where a few of them must have stopped.. if you are ever headed to the Dallas area, take a few hours and detour to GlenRose, TX which is a couple of hours south and go to the Dinosaur Valley State Park.. It is really neat to see in person!!
Lance Report post Posted April 10, 2007 Now thoes look like the dino tracks that I have seen. The first tracks look like man made. I have seen lots of petrogliphs of the same shape. It almost looks like a matati area (or however you spell it) A place where natives ground corn. Maybe the little kids decorated the rock while waiting for mom? Or maybe it's the six fingerd man who killed my father!!!!? Bwaaahahaha! "Prepare to die!"
