Here's some new info on the azgfd website...Also there's a couple left over elk permits available.

The 2007 draw for pronghorn antelope and elk has been completed by the Arizona Game and Fish Department. Anyone who applied can now visit azgfd.gov/draw or call (602) 942-3000 (press two and follow the prompts) to find out if they received a hunt permit tag.

Just over 102,000 people applied for 24,194 available elk permits and 37,009 people applied for 969 available pronghorn antelope permits. About 78 percent of all hunters used the online computer process to submit their applications instead of a paper application.

All hunt permits for pronghorn antelope were issued in the draw, but a few permits are leftover for elk. Two general antlerless elk permits are available for hunt number 3094 in Game Management Units 28, 31, and 32. And seven limited opportunity elk permits are available for hunt number 3090 and one limited opportunity elk permit is available for hunt number 3167. Applications for these permits will be accepted online only at www.azgfd.gov beginning at 8 a.m. (MST) on April 16. Leftover permits will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis.

For those individuals who qualify, there are military hunts available on Camp Navajo. For more information about these hunts, call (928) 773-3306.

Hunters should mark their calendars for Tuesday, June 12, 2007. That’s the anticipated date of the next big game hunt permit draw deadline for fall hunts for mule and white-tailed deer, turkey, javelina, bighorn sheep, and buffalo. Drawing information and regulations for these hunts should be available on the department’s Web site at the end of April. Printed copies of the regulations should be available at license dealers statewide the third week of May.

I agree about the "fishy" draw. I had seven points for elk and drew my second choice unit. Not that strange however, My first choice was 7W and my second choice was 7E.... I was tag number 5 for my second choice  I just can't figure out how they filled all 150 archery bull tags in 7W before they filled 4 archery bull tags in 7E

Both units were fairly close in draw rates and I figured that if I did not get my first choice, I was lucky to get a tag at all for my second choice let alone tag number 5! I assumed I would be tag number 100 to 120. Another thing to think about is that up to 4 people can apply on one application so potentially all 7W archery bull tags were issued before they came across 1 application for 7E archery bull. Maybe I am way off assuming that the tag numbers indicate somewhat of where you were in ranking of the "random" assigned numbers. Seems on another thread I recall someone saying he drew a unit 4B archery bull tag and that was his third choice? Don't get me wrong I am not complaining and I am grateful to have my tag but just don't feel like the draw is fair and maybe not even a lottery draw at all. By the way My buddy from Oregon drew another 6B archery tag this year, that makes 2 years in a row for him, sure does not seem fair for those that have 5 ++ bonus points and din't even draw

I agree with the draw being somewhat strange or "fishy". A few years ago, I put in with my buddy for archery bull in 27 and december whitetail in 27. He also put in an antelope tag. That year, we drew all those hunts. What are odds of that happening in one year?

He did have a bunch of bonus points for antelope. I think we averaged 6 points for the archery bull tags, and we had 3 points for the deer tags.

My point was not only did we draw the low number tags for our second choice, but that we did not put in together, and what are the odds that we would draw the 24th and 25th tag. My wife had 8 points and I had 7 points. We both put in for unit 9 first, and have never been drawn for that unit. I know some people that have had several tags in 9. I am very happy that I will be hunting though. But don't think for a minute that the draw is on the up and up. Too many fishy things going on. And don't think for a minute that you can trust an Arizona Government official to tell you the truth. Sure wish there was a way to find the truth. Oh well. I'll just be happy that I can hunt once every 6 or 7 years, better than not getting to hunt at all.

I'm with you Hawkeye! I remember someone saying that you could buy the draw run from the AZ G&F. I wonder if it shows what ranking everyone was at when the draw was run maybe that would show that it is not a fair lottery. I am not totally sure that the G&F is responsible for the mistakes though, I think that the out of state co. that processed the draw screwed it up. I can't help to think that if I drew tag number 5 on my second choice archery bull that maybe they ran my second choice first   I don't mind playing the odds and take whatever I do or do not get just as long as it is unbiased and fair!!!!!!!!!! Anyway you have to be happy that you and four wife drew the same tag!!! Congratulations and I hope you both get a monster!!

My wife and I put in separatly and were both drawn for our second choice, 5A archery bull. That makes me very happy. The thing that stinks is that she drew permit #24 and I drew permit #25.

That is bizare, it seems no matter what your understanding of the draw process is. I'd love to pose that question to G&F and ask them just how something like that could possibly happen.

I guess I'm not as up on the draw process as I thought I was. I thought when your application was processed, you were given a random # between 1, and the total # of people who put in for that particular hunt. The people with the random #'s that were at or below the # of available tags, got those tags. I thoght those same random #'s carried over to your second choice? But I'm not sure that makes sense either, as you drew your 2nd choice with #25, and #26. Certainly there were more than 26 tags available in your first choice hunt unit.

My head hurts.
