Spotting Scopes

Recommended Posts

Have decided I would like to get myself a nice spotting scope. I know they are nice, but I can't bring myself to spend $2k+ for a Swarovski. I have narrowed it down to the Vortex Viper 20-60 80mm or the Leupold Kanai 25-60 80mm. I have read the reviews and people love both. I would like some opinions from people on here that have had experience with one or both. Thanks for the info in advance.

I highly advise you to keep saving and buy a used Swarovski HD or non HD. Look thru a lot of scopes before you decide. Your welcome to look thru my Swarovski 80HD.

If you anticipate hunting lope, which I suspect because you posted in that section, a spotting scope is a must. In order to really field judge those things you have to have a lot o glass.

Cutters and mass are not easy to figure out.

I like my Vortex Viper HD. It will be adequate until I save enough for a Swarovski or Leica.

I also have the Vortex Viper 20-60x80 HD. It is a great scope. I heard the Kenai is made in China. I saw Doug at Cameralandny, has demo of the angled for $719. I bought one of the demos from them, and everything came still wrapped in plastic.

I appreciate the offer but it's not that I need to save more, just can't bring myself to spend that much money on a piece of glass I won't use very often. The only time I ever used a spotting scope was several years ago when my dad got drawn for antelope. He had a cheap one, that's why I would like something better. I am sitting on 14 pts. with who knows how many more years of waiting.
