paul navarre Report post Posted December 26, 2014 Thank you Mulepackhunter for the reply. I just talked to the Regional Biologist. Another reason he stated for the shorter archery season is that bowhunters had exceeded the allocated percentage success rate for the unit thus the shorter season. With the elimination of baiting, that success rate should go down some as outfitters were killing a high percentage of deer over baits. The rifel success was around 40 percent with 45 tags allowed. Thanks again, Paul
Sneaker Report post Posted December 26, 2014 In my experience, the most common attractants being used before the ban were salt and water, and you are still allowed to use both of those, so I don't know if that alone will change success rates much. But yes, when they shorten or take away a season, it is almost always because archers killed more than the departments target percent of total kills for the unit on an annual "all season considered" basis. MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted December 26, 2014 Now the question is how would they know the archery success rate?

elkaholic Report post Posted December 27, 2014 now all they need to do is try to actually go out in the field I'd bet the regional biologist hasn't even been in the unit! G&F has never responded to any of the reports by locals about 5 deer dead - carcasses rotting in field heads gone --- poaching . known fact! no big write up of several deer poached - they never even drove out to investigate - never called back or contacted anyone It's to the point that locals don't even bother because they know - nobody will show up anyway.

Heat Report post Posted December 27, 2014 Nice to see you around here Paul. Technically the answer the biologist gave you should be the correct one. They are supposed to change opportunity based on success of archery seasons, the problem is, you never seen any increased seasons when archery success stinks in a unit. Kind of a one way street if you know what I mean.
