BOOTS

Recommended Posts

I have been wearing Rockie Corn Stalkers for years and it seems like the last 3

pairs I have bought just keep getting worse. The pair I have now are about 3 years old and still are not comfortable.

I am looking for advise on a better pair of boots without breaking the bank

Thanks, Mike

Currently, I hunt with a pair of Lowa Tibets. I like the all leather tops and rubber rand. No cordura to let cactus needles and dust through, and the rubber rand to protect from sharp rocks. Cabelas has similar boots like the Mountain Hikers or Alaska Hikers, but you're also looking at over 200 dollars like the Lowas.

I'd suggest gathering your hiking socks and trying on some diff boots and widths at Cabelas or REI, to find a comfortable pair to match your feet. May not want to go too stiff, like with a pair of mountaineering boots, but the $39 pair of Merrells may not offer the support you want on a rocky mountainside. Won't be happy with a cheap or expensive pair that don't fit, give you blisters and sore feet.

Might also try a good pair of footbeds to replace the factory insoles.

Bob soles provide good grip, but the litlte knobs tend to break off with lots of rocks. Better for soil, mud and snow.

I've been wearing the danner brand. they have the most support, and I can wear them for days without any soarness.

I also wear danners pronghorn model. They are the most comfortable boots I've worn and the broke in with little to no effort. They are extremly light weight and have great support. I think they cost around $150. When i wear these out I'll probably go with pronghors agian.

When you are searching for info on something, remember you can use the search function (upper right hand side of forum, below banner) to find out if it has been discussed in the past.

here is a link to a previous thread about boots:

Danners are a strong favorite around here. I bought a pair after getting advice on the forum and I loved them! Unfortunately, they stopped making the one I liked (in women's anyway...). Mine sprung a leak and I sent them back to Danner and instead of fixing them, they gave them away before telling me that they discontinued them! That was the most comfortable boot I have ever had! I got another pair of danners, but they are heavily insulated and too hot for most hiking.

Danner Pronghorn are a great AZ boot. Mine are the old style Pronghorn and about 5 years old and still holding up for me. I have replaced the inside a few times with after market soles. I am going to get a new pair by deer season for that december coues hunt i am going to draw out from under Elkhunter.

I agree, tha Danner Pronghorn is an excellent boot. I have been using them for about 5 years now and they are still holding up great after many Elk, Deer, Antelope and Sheep hunts.

I agree. The Pronghorn's are a great boot for hunting in AZ. I recommend the Lowa boots for sheep hunting of the North Country, however.

Thanks everyone.

I went out yesterday and had to head back to the truck by 1:00

My dogs were killing me  :(

Amanda, are you scolding me for burning space

I have tried the search feature and the thing I didn't like about it is any thread that has that word in it comes up.

Maybe the search could be split into 2 sections (Word)--(Topic)

Just a thought

Mike

Just an FYI - You can narrow down the search quite a bit so that you don't get every post with the word in it. If you click on the more search options listed under the search box you get a lot more options. And when you open that more search options box up, it will have another link to "more options" on the bottom and you can search only titles or text within a post and you can narrow it down by the user name or by date and other things.
