jcarter Report post Posted December 13, 2014 What's the opinion on putting a gun safe in the garage, has anyone had problems? worried about the heat on the wood stocks. Thanks
Snapshot Report post Posted December 13, 2014 I would be more concerned about theft. I think someone here had theirs stolen out of the garage. Does it have holes to bolt it to the floor. You can get the dehumidifiers for the safe to help during the monsoon season, and high humidity. Not sure about the heat.
Couzer Report post Posted December 13, 2014 Yes don't do it in the PHX area during the summer, the heat will damage the wood furniture over a long period of time 2+ years. Just from what I have noticed.

If you must put it in the garage, spend the $$ on de-humidifiers. Ammo, primers and powder don't like heat & humidity either.
Hoss50 Report post Posted December 13, 2014 The garage is not my first choice of locations but it sometimes is the only option. I had mine in the garage for 4-5 years with no issues. I keep desiccant containers in it to suck up the moisture of monsoon season. I never had an issue with the wood stocks but keep them oiled and you should be ok. Some of my dad's old military mausers have been stored in a safe in a garage for 10 years with no issue. Bolt the safe to the slab with good concrete anchors to help prevent theft. Also try and make it less visible so when the door is open it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. Harley

hoghntr Report post Posted December 15, 2014 I have considered this also but safes in garage I know of are in climate controlled garages. and I would also like to make the thief work a bit harder! now days bad guys just pull vehicle into your garage and help themselves.. this is why I leave mine stacked to ceiling in gear/junk. I keep telling my wife it is latest in theft deterrant.
sherman Report post Posted December 15, 2014 Spider-Man could not get across your garage. There might be a safe in there you forgot about. I think Jimmy Hoffa is in there mike
